Default Exhaust

So I am planning on modding here very soon and been thinking about a few things. I know for sure I am getting a CAI cold air intake and a tune. I also know that I want to do something with the exhaust and have a few ideas in mind. I just bought this car about 3 weeks ago and about a week after having it a hole showed up in the muffler. I called the dealership and they agreed to fix it free of charge. After having it for a couple weeks and enjoying the nice deep tone the exahust produced, it went in today to get replaced. They put on a Walker aftermarket exhaust, and now the car doesn't make a sound. It is honestly unbearable, going from the deep groan to a car that is quieter then my galant 4 banger. So I have a couple ideas on what to do, magnaflow catback, downpipe, headers, but the wife says she likes how quiet it is and that it would be nicer for the road trips we go on frequently. I started thinking well why can't I have both. I don't think I am going to do headers and have been leaning more towards the ZZP downpipe with high flow cat. What I am really curious about is how will it perform if I put the downpipe on and then modify the exhaust that was just put on with a resonator delete and an electric cutout in its place? Just wondering if anybody has any expierence or opinion on it, or any other bolt on mods they think I should invest in instead.

honestly you'd probably get the sound your going for by getting your 3' downpipe and cat. delete resonator and u bend and run 3' back to the y and you will have a agressive but zero drone sound. and should be enough to keep the wife from arms across her chest look at you. lol

^This. I run this setup with magnaflows and it sounds good, gave me a better SOTP feel, and ever so slightly increased in cabin noise. Only problem is you have to go the custom route with the catback part as the only exhaust systems for our cars are 2.5" in diameter.

Well according to the ZZP downpipe info on their page, it is a bolt on item and reduces to 2.5" flanges that bolt directly to the OEM or aftermarket exhausts. I am just not sure if I will get any kind of aggressive tone out of these mufflers regardless of what I do with the piping before them. I mean the mufflers they put on are called Quiet-Flow mufflers. That's kinda why I was considering a cutout to bypass the mufflers when I want to be loud. I am just worried that might be too unrestricted because power increase is the number 1 priority. The other issue is I don't know if I want to deal with all the fab work. I might just go with the downpipe and the magnaflow catback. If I don't go with a cutout I am going to have to get rid of the existing exhaust system all togeather because at the muffler the piping reduces to 1.5" and all of the bends have really nasty creases in them. I can feel a considerable amount of power loss from this new exhaust and it has taken the thrill out of driving the car.

i went with just a cutting off the y at the back and putting a single in dual out muffler in its place and ran 2.5 inch to the bumper.

Wow, that is def. something different. How does it work for you, any downfalls that you've noticed compared to the stock system? It would be interesting to see how this stacks up against a magnaflow catback utilizing two mufflers. Did you keep the OEM headers downpipe and resonator?

yeah i kept everything else stock. eventually i probably just do a 3 inch back since i'll have alot of tubing left over from my other project.

no downfalls i see. i just made it with some leftover crap i had from my old mustang(yeah it was a pos)

i am going to do some different tips for it eventually to fill in the space a little better.

heres a video of it

ZZP does sell a full 3" downpipe. I have one for sale over on GMLS4 if you're interested.

I plan on doing more mods at a later date, but currently me exhaust is completely stock except for some magnaflow mufflers and tips. They hardly have any cabin noise until you punch it, which is exactly how I wanted it. If that is all you are looking for than it is what I would suggest, but obviously I haven't gotten any extra power out of it.

Thanks for the suggestions, but I really am looking for added power along with a more aggressive tone. I see everyone on here pretty much shot down the cutout idea, so now I am leaning away from that idea. I just thought I could have the best of both worlds, quiet and then when I want to be loud and add some power open the cutout in combination with the 3" downpipe. Now I am really considering going with the 3" downpipe with the magnaflow catback. Hopefully that will open her up enough to add some horses.

When I had catless 3" down pipe the drone was almost unbearable. Granted no cat and 3" strait thru mufflers. Anyway if your looking for the best of both worlds have you seen the Dynomax vt?

Those look pretty interesting. Does anyone here have any experience with these?

Well, thanks for the info on them. They really look promising, like they will help with the velocity at lower RPMs by restricting flow in the lower range. I was reading something about the Ferrari exhaust systems that they have two different paths out of the exhaust manifolds (1 for lower RPM and 1 for higher) to provide the most velocity. The windshield here was down to -11 today, so I won't be doing anything on the car now until it gets a little warmer as well. I think I am going to remove the mufflers on the car this week though cause I can't stand driving it with the super quiet mufflers on. And the power loss is ridiculous right now. There are so many different options it's hard to pick one. Well at least I have a few more weeks yet before I plan on buying anything to think about it.
