Default blue/white bulbs?

Anybody ever go and buy some super white or blue bulbs instead of going hid? Was wondering about doing this for the gxp. Want to do full fog, low beam and high beam.

If you have, which kind did you get?

I have silver star ultras. They are pretty bright. I have had them almost 2 years and they are still pretty bright.

I was looking at those. Are there different colours you can get? I don't want that old fashioned plain yellow colour anymore lol

I use Sylvania Silverstar ZXE. They are super white and super bright, about as close as you can get to HID without actually getting HIDs. I would definitely recommend them as an alternative. They've been on the car now for about 4 months now and haven't had any issues.

This is probably true. I think I paid around $50 for two of the ZXEs. And then take into consideration that they will need to be replaced probably once a year. I personally refuse to go HID without the proper fixture for them. It really angers me when I get blinded by people using the wrong fixtures with HIDs.

Ya I think that's why I'm steering away from HIDS at the moment, because I don't know how to fully install them with the relay and fitting them into the housing and such. If somebody gets a write-up goin sometime soon I may actually do HIDS instead. The other thing with HIDS is people say you cant have daytime runners on with them but in Canada you have to have daytimes.

Also is it worth it to get highbeams for HIDs? With the bulbs (If I chose that route) I wanna do lows/highs/fogs of the same colour. Can you get those Sylvertsar's in each of the sizes you need?

I don't know if it is the same on the GXPs, but on the Imp SS all the lights (high beam, low beam, fog) are the same, H11. You should be able to get the ZXE in any size.

A real quick way around DRL pulse width modulation killing hids is putting electrical tape over the photoelectric sensor on your dashboard. It works fine and the car always thinks its nighttime so you can turn the lights on/off if you please. And I have no relay working harness on mine never a flickering issue or anything like that and if you can change your headlight u can do hid's

I think his main issue with this is that Canadian law requires him to have daytime running lights.

I got it. He will have to either have his lights on or off, there will be no more DRLs because you have tricked the ECU into thinking it is always night time. In his situation due to the law he would always have to leave his lights on. Which IMO, would suck.

It does suck. Canada comes up with some pretty dumb vehicle laws. Can't have too dark window tint, can't have smoked plate covers, speed governors at 160 (km...not mph) on a lot of vehicles just to name a few lol. Luckily my GXP actually came from the states so that last part doesn't apply in this case
