3d printer on its way... Ideas?

The plastic should be kept away from high heat how much heat I'm not sure of yet there will be some testing involved it will work for inexpensive prototyping for sure and other misc I'm going to look into the possibility of using lost wax casting and composite mold making with it for parts that the plastic is just not suited for the plastic itself is probably best for interior and cosmetic parts its nice to be back on the board I remember when I first joined it was only a few of us with simple plans its good to see how far people are going with these cars this part of ls1tech has some real creative problem solvers I appreciate that... now its time for some reading to get caught up on the past three years or so

Also something to think about with those type of parts is that the type of printer he's using (FDM) does not make water tight parts. This means just as it sounds that they are not 100% solid and will pull liquid, or in a spacers case air, creating a leak unless it is sealed with something. On top of that the material available won't have the HDT needed to hold up with under hood temps.

there are many things you will be able to tinker with, but the guys suggesting parts need to understand the reality of what you can do for them. As you dont want to be wasting time designing parts that essentially wont be able to be used and a waste of your material.

Update
well after a shipping ordeal we finally have the printer up and running! I have found that the temperature at the extruder is 230 degrees Celsius so 446 degrees f. I have a few software decisions to make but will keep everyone updated and get some pictures up very soon

Sounds about right. The FDM machine's we have run a little over 300f at the tip. Can't wait to see what you come up with.
Interesting news, the company we sell machines for bought out makerbot about 2 weeks ago. So I'm not sure what the future holds for them or us and if we have to sell and support them.
