Default Ran at drag strip and not happy with result.

First of all im a new member to the forum and am very happy with it so far. So I recently ran at the strip with my stock 08 gxp and I watched tons a videos and read lots up on forums bout best launch on a GXP. Everyone saying the run 13s stock best run I had all day was a 14.98. And another thing I dont understand I would have traction control off and gun it and my car would stall like traction control was still on. Any explanations would be much appreciated.

even if your traction control is off there are many abuse modes programmed into the car. If you want your car and transmission to last you need to get a tune

Whats a reasonable tuner out there? The diablo tuner is a little out of my budget.

Unfortunatley with this and most platforms you get what you pay for. I personally use trifecta tuning and people have great results with diablo. Anything less than those two and you'll waste your money purchasing a second tuner.

I'd just pay someone local with HP tuners to give you a in car tune and be done with it. There a lot of people near you who can do it.

I'm not to educated on tuning so I was wondering after I tune my car will it ever need to be retuned? Or after I have someone tune my car I'm good to go till I want to return it to stock?

It will need a retune if you go with a different intake manifold headers etc.. Any major change that affects the engine needs a re tune. So get your exhaust mods out the way like downpipe etc.. Out the way get a tune up (tr6 or autolite 103 plugs. Then go in for a tune. Get the did disabled and stay away from the dragstrip till you get your car in order. Also a trans cooler and oil catch can are very beneficial to these cars.

As far as bogging down with the TC off there could be many things going on. Personally, I know my GXP will shift early into 2nd if I gun it with the TC off from a stop, which will make the car fall flat on its face, there is just too much wheelspin. Honestly until you really get the hang of it, leave the TC on and for a launch, don't slam the pedal down just roll onto it aggressively and it's fairly quick. The TC in these cars feathers the ABS to prevent excessive spin instead of cutting power like some other systems, so leaving it on isn't a terrible option. Obviously once you get good at launching, or better tires you'll be quicker with it off. Just my 2 cents.

there is an anti-score system in the trans that will make it so if you spin your tires it and they are going different speeds it will kick in to prevent your axles from ripping to shreads

Every strip is going to be different. Not to mention sea level. I got a 14.5 out of my 07 GXP stock, which was slower than I wanted, but I was beating 07 mustangs that night. My best times were easing into the accelerator at first (I believe TC off) and letting the car shift itself.

Can't believe no one has asked the OP what the track temps or even what the DA was that day! Also, we don't even know what track he was at. For all we know, he could have been at Bandimere, which case, his ETs would have been respectable.
