Pretty much resigned to the fact im stuck with it now...about the same payment...i'm at 303 a month. not breaking the bank here but it would be nice to NOT have that payment too...
Part of me wants to wait til summer so i can DD the camaro and TEP trans this thing...but if i do...it's ~3500 bucks and even then...i know what i'll end up doing to it...and thats why i bought the camaro in the first place...
I might call TEP and go the route LS4 Racing Did...minor upgrades to hopefully extend the life while it's still good...
Not a bad looking car however...Someone should snag it up in the 3-4k range for sure. they'll have a good running car for no more than 7k that way..and thats with a bulletproof TEP...
I did a rough workup of your car on Edmunds, and by their methodology for a car with a major mechanical issue, you take the price for "Average" condition and subtract the cost of fixing the problem. In this instance, the Private Party value of your car is about $3500 in average condition because of the miles. If you factor in $2500 to do the transmission, it's $3500-$2500= $1000 car. This seems kind of low to me, as this is an enthusiasts car, so I'm guessing you could probably sell it for $2500, as it sits.
Sounds to me like the only way it makes sense to fix it is if you can get a cheap tranny job done, or you know someone who will buy it for around $5000. Otherwise, you should take what you can get and be happy with that.
One final thought: Have you thought about parting it out? Small parts add up, and there are lots of folks who want to put GXP parts on their 3800 cars. An LS4 long block can from anywhere between $300-$800 and even the burnt-up trans can probably net you $300 if you sell to Dave @ TEP. You can also make a killing on selling the seats and HUD. In the end, you'll probably wind up with a lot more than if you sold it complete but not-running.
