Default changing alternator this week

My alterntaor finally died on me last night. Thank god i got home first. Anyways, im gonna be doin this with a buddy and hes convinced he can use a 1/2 ratchet with extensions to lossen the belt. I know that wont work. So my question is, after reading the stickys on this, is my best bet honestly to just go with the hose clamp method? Cuz i dont have time to wait and order the damn "special tool"

I just took my wheel off and used a crow bar to push down on it. Worked a lot easier than hose clamps. However if your belt's old enough you should be able to slip it on and off with just a screw driver around your PS pulley.

4-5 Inch hose clamp and 8mm socket...you don't even have to take off the wheel. What's simpler than that?

So with a fully charged battery, think i can make it on a 30 minute drive to get it to the garage? I really dont feel like pulling over 5 times on the expressway to jump it..plus its freezing out

Got the new one in no problem. Bought a 6$ metal bar that bends 90 degrees at the end and its 1/2 square at the end. Heated it up and flatened part of it with a hammer. Fit right down in there no problem and no 125$ special tool lol. Was done in 30 minutes

I've got the special tool. Snagged it off ebay back in the day. Only paid like $20-30 shipped or something lol.
