Trans question Hey GXP owners, I was stopped at a red light on a hill the other night and when I took my foot off of the brake to take off the car rolled backwards. I thought it was a fluke thing so I went to a spot where there was an incline to test it again...sure enough the car would roll backwards as if it was in neutral, as soon as I hit the gas the car went forward as normal....is that normal for these cars?

I believe that's normal, at least if you have an automatic transmission. In a manual, it's the clutch, but in an automatic the torque converter doesn't lock up when you're stopped, which is why your engine doesn't stall. Nothing is preventing the gears from reversing. Then the moment you step on the gas, it engages.

I've never experienced that in my automatic cars, though most have been rear wheel drive. It seems a bit more pronounced when the trans is at full operating temp.

Same here but up in WI. OP, what you're describing was one of the symptoms of my forward band going.
