Default GXP trunk is leaking water like crazy!!

Only high pressure drive through car wash..If I wand wash or hand wash with hose very very little. Almost negligible. Just went through a leak this summer I was in the trunk with flashlight and it was coming in through left taillight assembly. Now the whole trunk mat was soaked as was a huge dry towel and a nice puddle in the sump where the spare tire is. Its getting cold up here.. I dunno.. I heard about leaking through spoiler bolt holes and the weather striping is in great shape no cracks but at the top near rear window there is a 3 foot area that stays flat(squashed) when the trunk is open. Weatherstrip should stay round when uncompressed.. so I dunno. I just know it's a common issue. Anybody have it? Other ideas? I don't know if I wanna go through the drive thru in 40 degree weather and get soaked from head to toe with a flash light in the trunk. This didn't happen all summer except for the small tail light leak.

Thanks anyone!

Derek

Get in the trunk while someone sprays it , make sure you have a flash light

Gee thanks. That er work. lol Christ these are typical old GM junk. My 02 GTP coupe was better built ( minus the interior than this GXP) . I googled and its HIGHLY common... I can't believe no one has had this problem here. I can't wait to get another Z06.

If anyone knows how to adjust the trunk latch to tighten the trunk when it's closed i would greatly appeciate it. Can't find anything on Google.

Thanks

Like I said wand wash isn't powerful enough to really do anything. Its the super high pressure drive through ones where ur cars in neutral and is pulled through with the high pressure hurricane dry blower. Ordered a trunk seal and see what happens.

Eh, I used to work at a Chevy dealer, but we fixed the used cars as well (all makes and models). GM does not have the lock on that. Water leaks can be from all kinds of things. Parts get old and don't seal as well, the car could have repaired improperly from a wreck, the previous owner could have screwed with something, etc.

You could run the car through the high pressure car wash (have someone else drive) and have the backseat folded down. Stick your head in the trunk and use a flashlight to find it.

I would focus on the holes where the spoiler bolts to the trunk, the weatherstrip where the trunk lid seals to the body, and potentially the seal around the back glass leaking and the water running into the trunk.

Thanks for the tips bud. The car had a minor front end crash,, very little damage. Zero rear end damage. Carfaxed, autochecked DMV'd it.. Had my uncle also look at it who has owned a huge body shop for 40 years and knows his stuff. Checked every source. U can tell the front bumper had been off and repainted, cracked repaired. Back end is completely factory. I'm experienced in body work of a car. The rear end wear matched rear quarters sides.. Front looks a lot more newish .. you can see it in the paint glossiness in proper lighting. It's silver but I got good eyes for that. lol

Check the reverse light housing/trim. The gasket goes bad and may leak water.

Thanks for the tip. lol.. I actually put in a new back up light & lens and gasket since the factory one was cracking, yellowed and weathered. I did have some water come in this summer through the rear tail light but I fixed that.

Sorry about bringing up this thread months later again.. but my water is coming through my back up lamp housing. It's insane how much comes in. Only not much with wand wash, but a drive through car wash its like half a bucket! Brand new housing (6 months old) You can see huge amounts of daylight when you lower the rear seat and look inside and actually see some clear outside like a long thin hole!!! Not light but like the trunk is open. Funny thing is you can't see ***** in to the trunk from the back when the housing is snugged up with that 1/16" inch foam gasket... It all looks sealed *** tight! I'm at odds as what to do next. Black rtv around the foam housing gasket?? I mean 4 nuts 4 studs, zero adjustability and when it's attached there is no sign that you can see any actual gap from the back of the car. Merry Christmas guys.
