Default those with TEP trans-

I just got my trans back and was wondering if everyone is using Dexron VI in there TEP transmissions? If not what kind of fluid?

I dont have a tep but i do have a fully built trans with custom valvebody work and i use ony Acdelco dex IV

Dave "TEP" sends instructions with his transmission and it says to use Dextron VI 12-14 quarts rougly it should also include instructions on how to fill it once you get it installed...

If i remember correctly you pour in about 6 quarts , then start the car and continue to add quart after quart until you get to around 12 , then start measuring with the dipstick.

check your dealer for the fluid, mine sold it to me at the bulk price.

X2 for dealer,I never use store brands for any fluid except oil

Dex VI is the factory and Dave-at-TEP specified fill for this trans. I spoke to him about this about a month ago, and he explained that Dex VI is maintains its viscosity better over longer periods of time and is far more heat tolerant than Dex IV. Additionally, Dex VI is a lower viscosity fluid than Dex IV, and that the last generation of 4T65 transmissions were specifically calibrated for this fluid.

Im getting a tranny from dave sometime this year, how much of a pita are they to swap, never had to mess with the tranny besides a cooler with this car

For me the hardest part was , after getting the frame and everything unbolted , trans etc was actually lowering it and getting it to clear the motor/flywheel and the fender. Literally only a millimeter or 2 of clearance. Took 8 hours for me to get it out the first time around and took about a entire day to get it back in my first time around. Hardest part for me getting it back in was getting the powersteering rack+frame to line up correctly.
