Default New To Tuning - Questions and Suggestions

Hey guys, I was recently looking for someone to tune out my DoD on the GXP. Decided to take a drive over to Summit Racing yesterday and purchased the Cold Air Inductions and the Diablo Sport InTune.

So I loaded the updates to the intune and installed the Diablo Tune on last night and everything went nice and smooth, no hiccups anywhere along the way.

After driving around town and a little on the highway and driving to and from work today (about 100 total miles) I am impressed with the out of the box Diablo Tune. Here are a couple of things I noticed:

I'm left feeling a little underwhelmed by the overall highway performance from a 60 roll held to the wood, the car only gets to 5,000 ish rpm before it shifts into 4th. Before the tune I could get pretty close to the redline and the car would do about 100 mph in 3rd gear. Now it shifts into 4th by about 85 to 90 mph. I noticed it shifting at around 5k rpm thru all the gears. Did the tune change the shift points of the tranny? ( I also installed the firm shift in the InTune as well)

I have searched around a bit on the LS4 boards and did not find much in the way of setting up the custom parameters. I have read a little about the throttle booster and I may trying messing with this.

What are some of the other things that you guys recommend tuning in the custom parameters on the LS4? I have not had a chance to look though all of the custom stuff yet.

Also , if I am going to change the tune on my car do I need to reinstall the stock tune before I change the tune or modify the existing diablo tune?

Thanks and looking forward to any of the info that you guys can pass along about the LS4 tuning.

Thanks,
Ryan

You're saying at WOT you're shifting into 4th? Because that's not right and you shouldn't be doing WOT pulls in 4th lol. For example at WOT I stay in 3rd from about 92-95 all the way to 159.

Also in HP Tuners you can just flash your new tune to your car so I would assume you can do the same with the Diablo programmers.

Yes, that is what I am assuming I was feeling. Cruising along in 4th at 60 mph, put it to the floor, car downshifts into 3rd, pulls to 5k rpm and then shifts into 4th.

Or is the car shifting from 4th down to second and then into 3 rd???

Any clue why it is shifting at lower rpm than before the tune?

Thanks,
Ryan

At 60 you're more than likely shifting to 2nd. It all depends on your tune but I downshift to second usually at 75 and below when I go WOT. And then you're seeing it shift to third. And it's doing this based on your how your shifts are setup. It's better to shift a couple hundred RPM before you redline. You'll shift quicker and instead of hitting the limiter and then shifting you'll continue making power through your shift. I make peak power right around 6500 RPM so my shift points are set around 6200 RPM not including any multiplier table.

that "throttle booster" setting does nothing on the LS4's... won't do anything for ya...

no you do not have to restore original stock tune first before modifying the preset tune.. just select the preset tune you want to install, then select to Modify the tune.. make your changes you want.. then reinstall the tune...

the preset tunes do NOT change any shift points, so the tune didn't change that... shift pressure and how quick it shifts is changed.. but shift points themselves are still stock settings...

I can definitely get you more out of the tunes with a custom tune for it if you're ever interested in doing that...

With the custom tune, you'll gain even better/quicker throttle response & acceleration, stronger/harder pull, smoother & quicker power delivery throughout the rpm's, better tranny performance/shifting, etc...

I change a lot of things... a small sample of just SOME of the things are: disable the DOD/AFM, disable/reduce torque management, adjust part-throttle fueling/timing, WOT fueling/timing, knock retard settings, throttle settings, tranny torque, tranny torque management, tranny shifting settings (pressure/firmness, shift points, quickness), etc...

My 4th is completely tuned out @WOT with my 3.29 gears i can run up to about 155-159 before running out of tach in 3rd and i would suggest contacting 06montess for his custom tune from what i has seen he is a beast with diablo stuff the canned tunes suck

60 rolls do suck, that's bottom of 2nd gear. I just use tap shift when I'm doing a pull because in d it shifts early just like your saying. ESPECIALLY the 3 to 4 wot that's at like 5k if that. You can modify the shift rpm up and down but not mph which overrides and makes that irrelevant.

Hptuners is next for me i spent half that on this Diablo setup
