hard to say honestly, i know the mid range should be incredible, but the LSA has me questioning whether or not it will peak at 5800 or somewhere between 6-6200. Have a look at this article right here...

Some good info there. Dyno numbers out of the car are always high, But my guess is you will have more horsepower then you think you will. The rockers really showed some good gains. Looks like the LS3 cam to me would offer the most street ability without different heads. Cant wait to hear this thing.

What about the L99 (LS3 + DOD/AFM) cam in an LS4 for those of us wanting to keep DOD/AFM?

Seems like a decent upgrade considering the L99 makes 400 HP/410 lb-ft. A benefit would be camshaft phasing, thus delivering VVT (tuning maybe?).

Well if you take 20% off those numbers for drivetrain loss, since they are on an engine stand dyno, the numbers make more sense. For instance they baselined 353hp, with a 20% loss that would be 283hp. The crane 224 put down 442hp, with 20% loss, 354whp. Seems to match up well.

I believe you can go as large as the LS2 cam, the lift is what would be the limiting factor, and I believe .525 is the maximum recommended lift on the DoD lifters.

Do we not share the same lifters?

I also just realized that an L99 camshaft is a single bolt. You would need a reverse of this Lingenfelter kit to make it work: http://www.lingenfelter.com/mm5/merc...8#.VW89ns9VhBd

I was just thinking out loud for a cheap camshaft.

I did the DOD delete in mine, i have LS7 lifters and LS6 valve springs. It is essentially a regular LSx engine now without the dod. I have both gears as well with the 4x pickups, 3 bolt and single bolt. You can buy the gears individually.

This might seem like a dumb question, but there's no issue removing the valve covers when the engine is cool but has oil in it, right? Thanks!

Nope, just make sure you cover the heads with a trash bag or something so nothing gets in the engine while the vc's are off. And make sure they are very clean before you paint them, any sort of oil residue will make the paint come right off. Brake clean or any sort of solvent, and a rough sand is a good way to prep them before primer and paint.

mods to the alt bracket, still trying to see if ill need to take more off for the eventual LS6 intake manifold swap, going by pics from the sticky thread. Even if i never put the manifold on, lopping that section off that covers the harness makes it cake to install the intake manifold.

If anyone is interested in a custom grind for their LS4, shoot me a pm and I can put you in touch with derek. Ill have pics of the cam on monday once it arrives, then the motor will be getting assembled.

the peeling trim moulding was driving me insane, broke the drivers side front door unfortunately, gotta find a replacement, but was able to redo the other 3 doors with good success.

nope, told ya, not taking the bottom end apart. Just a fluke that i had to replace that one rod bearing. Cam bearings have the normal wear and tear on them on the thrust side, otherwise they look fine.

Good deal. Did you get your transmission back yet?
