key fob issues

key fob issues Folks,
My fob seems to work intermittently.
The first time I remote start the car it works every time.
Then I won't be able to use the unlock key more than once until I'm next to the car. It's pretty predictable in its non functionality.
I've done the "key fix" which adds the piece to assure electrical contact is made. Battery is new. I've replaced the rubber pad as well.
Nothing seems to help - could this issue be caused by the car's receiver? How do I diagnose and resolve?
