If it's 24230006 (B21 0006) then it's the wrong converter. Looking at the catalog now. That would have been the converter rated for the 3.5 v6.

I would be standing right there for inspection when/ if they have to pull it. That convertor should not have fit, I would want to see what else they did.

So it is a different pattern? I would think the impala would fit the Monte as well, but considering if they did put the 3.5 torque converter in, that would mean not only am I having my mpg screwed up, but my torque itself is either being limited and or it's burning itself up due to being the wrong converter

If the LS4 has a dual bolt pattern flywheel, the wrong convertor could have been put in. I don't know the answer if we do or not. If we don't, the six cylinder convertor I don't think should be able to be bolted up. I am not an expert, don't have the answer. Someone who has had theirs apart might be able to offer more insight.

I take it, your going to argue with me even though it's obvious you've never taken out the fuel pump of a ls4 car, the order goes pre filter pump post filter w regulator housing then up to the outlet

As for a smaller converter on a ls4 car I've never seen a dual bolt pattern flex plate available . Highly doubt the shop would even touch the flex plate to redrill it but stranger things have happened

I called another shop who my tuner recommended me to go to and he said that that would be the convertor they put in, odd... And yeah I would doubt it would be the fuel, the shop recommended me revise the tune

All you need to do is take off the inspection cover and look at your flexplate. From the cars I've seen they have single pattern 258mm.

It's a strainer assembly, not a pre filter, post filter, or whatever you want to name it. Just because it does something called "filtering" doesn't mean that it is serviceable or performs the same function as a "fuel filter" that we are traditionally used to. The overwhelming majority of car's since the mid 2000s have been factory equipped with this stuff and serviceable filters have gone the way of the dinosaur. Telling the OP to pull his fuel pump assembly to replace a non serviceable filter is asinine and he is going to wind up having to replace the entire pump and float assembly.

I never told the op to pull the pump I'm telling you in plain sight you in fact have a fuel filter in your fuel pump module point blank, its literally a filter, I've taken the whole thing apart, unlike you to verify. But hey keep on doing what your doing.

But ultimately there's absolutely no reason to.

I'm running a 245mm converter in my car after the PI converter ate it. Was simple enough drilling the correct holes in the flywheel for the different bolt pattern. As far as Dave from TEP told me the only aftermarket converter that works for our cars is the PI converter with its dual pattern. So if you want to go away from the OEM converter but don't want to dish out the money for a PI converter you'll have to drill your flywheel.

Freeing up that much weight using a 245mm converter could easily result in a 3mpg gain on any of our cars, the problem is there isnt enough lockup clutch material in a converter that small to handle the load our engines and weight of the car place on it.
Here's my question, how does the smaller converter not have enough clutch material for the LS4? Many 3800s are making good power on a 245mm. As well as physically speaking it was the same dimensions on the outside as the PI converter. Not sure how it was internally though. I'm only ~8 months in on this converter but have 0 issues with it so far and I'm not the easiest on it.

So I hopped in the car took about a 15 mile trip to the hospital, reset the dic, and noticed my trip meter at 680, so I haven't even driven the new trans 1k miles yet lol. Anyhow I arrived to my destination, about 15 min highway maybe about 10 ish mins, dic ends up at 25 mpg, saw it as high as 28 constant on highway. I made a appointment to see my tuner next week so I can have to adjusted.

I did read somewhere that if you had your pressure lines adjusted during a tune prior to a rebuild, then you should have the car retuned. My pressures were adjusted to help with shifting prior to the rebuild and with the rebuild they added a shift kit to help the shifting, if I remember correctly it was the transgo kit, not a racing one but one to help the shift patterns, which my tune also had adjusted prior to the rebuild. the builder stated he added in extra plates and new clutches etc..I have audio of what he added at home if i find anything else ill post it.

Edit ; also checked the fluid, level good and purely pink, no signs of overheat at all

Well, do I think that the 245mm converter has enough lockup clutch material for our cars? YES. But dave from TEP was the one who told me that as well as numerous other sources around the net, and that that was the whole reason behind GM going to a larger 258mm converter in the first place. As far as going with other converters, circle d and FTI have both said they can build a 4t65ehd 258mm converter without an issue for half the price of what dave charges for that precision converter. In fact only reason I havent switched is because I just dont want the hassle of pulling the trans.

As far as the flywheel goes, intense was selling a dual bolt pattern converter for the wbody's for quite a while now. However you are right its as simple as just having it redrilled.
