power steering rack mystery
Just replaced the rack on my 07 GXP, however the wheel now turns too much from lock to lock and triggers the steering angle overlimit code. Seem's to be that they sent me the wrong ratio steering rack, as I have found out that there were several different ratios available for the w-bodies from 97-08. However, after pulling the PN's off the old rack, i cannot find ANYTHING about this 07 GXP rack that cross references to the aftermarket rebuilds available to purchase. One or two come up on ebay but they are non magnasteer models. Has anyone run into this problem with the GXP?

Yeh, its a reman unit from detroit axle, came fully assembled, I put new outters on it and had it aligned, it sets the C0710 code right as you hit full lock on either side. Any point inbetween and its fine. According to what I pulled from the atsco catalog, it looks like they sent me a buick regal magnasteer rack which is a full 3 turns from lock to lock where as the GXP rack is 2.8 and the 03 GTP is 2.7, but the GTP rack is also an inch shorter on the body for some reason, i would have noticed that when I sat them next to each other.

We are theorizing that because they sent me the rack with the larger turning radius (3 full turns lock to lock) that i am going outside of the steering angle sensors calibrated range. This is what ATSCO lists for the 3 different racks that are visually identical.
Problem I think im having is these low budget rack rebuilders dont specify ratios, they take in a ton of cores and only sort them by year range and with or without magnasteer. Looks like what I got is the regal rack with the 3 turns when I should have the GXP rack with 2.8. So I paid the extra money and ordered directly from atsco model 64137.

You were able to have a zero point cal done with the tech2 however? What year is your car and what model?

atsco rack came in today, noticeably better quality then the one i put in, ill never use detroit axle again. Line's were all brand new, entire unit was bead blasted and recoated, same PN's as my old rack, boots are alot better on the ends and the tie rods are heavier duty. Came much better packed as well.
