Default Big 3/4 Wiring Upgrade - LS4

Hello,

Does anyone have direction on how to do this on an LS4?
Specifically I'm asking as I'm aware that there is a current sensor that makes our alternates variable output (I cannot recall whether it's on the ground or power cable).

Does this alter how one would perform the big 3/4 upgrade on an LS4 or would it be like any other car?

Feedback is appreciated.

Thank you,

Mike

The big 3 is just running larger wires for you ground and power. I did this by making my own cables, and crimping them myself so i could get the correct lengths.

For the power:

1. I ran a 0 gauge wire from the alternator to the starter post. (There is already an existing one that is roughly 4 gauge, I left it installed)
2. I ran a 0 gauge wire from the starter to the battery. (Make sure this goes through the current sensor, if you want to get fancy you can make a 0 gauge run from the battery to a distribution block, and make sure the current sensor is on this 0 gauge run, and then distribute the power from there)

Ground:
1. Next to the battery there is a ground wire that goes to the frame next to the headlight, I removed this ground and upgraded it to 0 gauge.
2. I added a 0 gauge ground wire to one of the bolts on the alternator bracket (engine ground)
3. There is another ground wire that I left alone, the 0 gauge wire to the alternator bracket, and the one to the frame is plenty.

I'll include some pictures tomorrow

Some of the stock wires/grounds are wimpy so installing bigger/better wires insure you get a better ground.

1. Use welding cable
2. Buy a distribution block or post
3. Run wire from the alternator to battery / fuse box to battery / reuse the stock power cable that goes to the starter and attach that to the block as well.

For grounds you can utilize the factory ground but add one to the alternator bracket utilize a one of the 15mm bolts that go into the side of the head. I also have one on that artery body as well.

can someone explain the battery current sensor here?

Mine has 2 NEGATIVE cables running through it(and thin sensor wire)

In the pictures in this thread I see 1 - and 1 + cable running through it.

Does it not matter what runs through it?

Why do I have two negative cables yet Sint3k has a ground and positive?

IS it not supposed to work one way? Do I need two cables?

confused how this sensor is SUPPOSED to be hooked up...

also...

Is this the correct best way?

POSITIVE
1) 0G wire from fuse box to battery +
2) 0G wire from alternator + to battery +
3) 0G wire from starter + to battery +

for three above use this 3 connection battery post...

http://www.knukonceptz.com/mobile-au...tery-terminal/

Stock setup has a 4G or something wire going from alternator + through the wire harness down through to the Starter + where also there hooked up is the main battery + cable... I suspect this could be left on to probably no advantage since 0G is throughout....

NEGATIVE

for three - connections above use again...

http://www.knukonceptz.com/mobile-au...tery-terminal/

1) 0G wire from chassis to battery -
2) 0G wire from alternator ground post to battery -
3) 0G wire from battery - to engine block ground shown below as G113 ... (leave any factory grounds active but clean/sand them)

Did you repurpose one of the factory RED positive cables as a ground as seen in picture 2?

Question, I'm doing this upgrade now but I need to know which wires go through the battery current sensor? and which way I should point it?

edit- So I noticed by watching some YouTube videos that the sensor has the fuse box and the positive wire in the loop for the Monte /impalas but the gxp looks like it's with the one negative wire, not the closest ground on the top of the frame. So I'm assuming it can be placed in either position?

Just wondering if someone might be able to shed some light on a question I had in an earlier post in this thread... I'll cut and paste the text....

Again, the wayothers are hooked up is irrelevant..if you follow how yours came from factory you will be fine when you upgrade.
