Default Overheating issues

So basically my 07 Grand Prix GXP is overheating, it only started today. The coolant used to boil but the temperatures were normal. Also in the last two days, I had the tires replaced. Same day the alternator died literally on the way home from that. Now I replaced the alternator 2 hours before i drove it again and it began to overheat. I topped off the coolant and it still overheats just not as rapidly.
Could it have something to do
with the replacement of the alternator?

Probably not, unless the belt was incorrectly installed either bypassing the water pump or turning it in the wrong direction which is very unlikely. Flush the system, replace the thermostat if it has not been done yet(get ready to be completely frustrated and lose skin on that job). Replace the plastic radiator cap as well and make sure the fans are working. Post back your findings. Good luck

Last year my car started to run a little hot and get up to and uncomfortable temp. And come to find out that my passenger's side fan wasn't turning on. Car's temp begin to creep up. Found out that it was a break in the wire; very close to the fuse box under one of the fan relays. Like directly underneath it. My mechanic had to take it out, re-wire the connector, and worked like a charm. We have no idea as to why it would even break or short out there in such a fixed area. So maybe get a multi meter and see what you can find, instead of being like me by replacing the T-stat, and the whole radiator.

Check to make sure the fans work first had a very similar problem, after you overheat a new thermostat is always a good idea
