Default DoD reprogram?

My parents have recently purchased a 2006 Impala SS with the displacement on demand. They really like it but want to know if there is a way to change the computer programming to make the V8 kick in less aggressively during highway (example: when on cruise control and the road starts to go slightly uphill, the car kicks into V8 mode...my dad thinks that it should stay in 4cyl mode longer)

They will be able to modify the dod tables eventually. As of now there is no program to do this. I'd like the option of being able to have the computer disable dod when in and using tap-shift mode

That is the reason why that light that tells you what it's in was a BAD IDEA!!!!

and boy am I glad I don't have it in mine! (or I'd be doing the same thing, you watch, that light will be gone by next year, bet you the dealer has to take in numerous complaints about people claiming that exact problem/question.

my car feels the same way but its not the same (and of course i dont have DOD), my cruise control hits the gas a little hard, harder than i would expect but it may just feel that way because i have headers and a cutout, maybe since you know its doing it you might be exaggerating it in your head a little.

with a tall axle ratio the Torque Converter lock-up is more pronounced right around the speed you guys are saying, so I wouldn't be surprised if that were the case.

Why would you want it to stay in 4-cyl mode longer? You'll end up dumping more fuel in there to maintain the speed with 4, probably just as much or more than you'll use with all 8. Plus I'm sure running those 4 cylinders under higher engine loads will be a lot harder on the engine.

Not surprised since between my dad and myself we have over 35 years of collective computer experience.

Dad thinks that the solution lies in the vacuum settings.

the DoD triggers off the engine load, so once you can get in there with a programmer all you'll need to do is raise the maximum load value for DoD operation, I would think. I still don't think it will gain you anything, gas mileage or otherwise. He's definitely in the minority, as I think most are wanting to know how to stay in v8 operation more

V8 mode is fine for stomping it around town or when passing, but when just cruising at 65 or 70 on the interstate it sucks down the gas. GM really dropped the ball by putting the tired 4 speed auto in there. A 5 or 6 speed auto would have saved just as much highway gas mileage as the DoD is supposed to.

the DOD works off the oil pressure... and only kicks in if you're in D (auto-overdrive), going 20mph or faster, and cruising along with no engine load or acceleration...
