Default Impala Motors...3.5, 3.9, 5.3 differences? and 3.8 vs. 3.9?

What is the differences between all these and the difference between the old 3.8 from all the cars that they used to put that in and the new 3.9?

The 3.5 and 3.9 i believe are nothing but the 2.8l from the mid 1980's that has been bored and stroked to death
The 5.3l is an LS1 based V8 engine
And the good old reliable 3.8l is the same Buick based engine from i believe the early 60's otherwise known as the 231CI

The 3.9L has variable valve timing that I think is new for 2006. They electronically phase the camshaft to maximize hp and torque. From what I've read, its the only cam in block engine that has variable valve timming.

I was looking at a window sticker today on an '06 Impala LT, it had the 3.5L and it has variable valve timing, too, but only 211 hp (instead of 242 hp of the 3.9L).
