Default Observations the last few days

Since I've gotten hptuners the other day I've noticed some general observations.

1.)These cars would really benefit from a cold air intake or fenderwell. Tonight the ambiet temp was around 77degrees and the lowest IAT(intake air temp) I seen was still around 105 degrees.

2.)Even though I'm running 92 octane with no ethanol I'm still sometimes get KR as high as 6! The is only under WOT runs. I don't know if it's because the intake temps are so high or what.

3.)The LTFT is as 0% at WOT, I thought I read somewhere -3 was perfect so 0 would be running rich? (0 - 100mph WOT runs) I was wondering if this could cause KR also.

4.) My dad has the same exact car as me and he has been running 87 octane. Tonight I scanned his car for about 30 minutes and he is getting KR way more frequently then I am. It really suprised me how much KR he was getting, even under low throttle positions he was getting alot of KR. I think I convinced him he better start running premium.

Any suggestions are welcome, as are pointing me in the right direction if I'm wrong about something. There alot of guys out there that no way more then me on these cars.

You guys must have some crappy gas or something in your area. With it 95 degrees out and IAT much higher I have no KR under full throttle. I get a sporadic KR hit at cruise looking at at the scans, but you really gotta search to find 'em. My TM is 33% missing from stock and no KR after shifts either. This is using Shell and Amoco premium with ethanol in it for the Chicago area. Maybe change gas?

Well, the fuel I've been using is Amoco. I guess I'll try shell the next time I fill up.

What is the max shift pressure?
96psi?

Yes... unless you change the max allowed pressure.

Yeah i tried several ways of getting cool air to the filter, my air intake temps are rather high too, roughly 100 degrees or less.

I installed the 160 thermo this weekend, and it helped with the underhood heat quite noticeably.

However it sucks that the fans can not be set to come on lower than 180

So right at 180 i have both fans come on, when cruising it stays about 170-175 now, and in slower in town stuff the fans come on.

I have about 30* of timing into it now @ WOT with no knock.

That thermostat swap is kind of an abortion, the heat shield needs to come off the front ex manifold and you need a 1.5 foot extension to get behind it for the back bolt on the goose neck...

Takes about a gallon of coolant to refill, it bled its self out within 5 min.

an abortion... lol, thats a good one.

I may just be dreaming, but I think the speed density OS upgrade with HP Tuners allows for lower fan settings. Since it is a 2 bar upgrade you would have to change a couple things after applying the upgrade though since it really wouldn't be for 2 bar.

Do you have a part number for the 160 thermostat, all the places I've tried (autozone, advance autoparts, o'riellys) all dont have anything in the computers for it. Also anyone ever tried any colder plugs?
TIA,
Tate

I ordered it from www.ls1speed.com for a 2005 LS2 corvette. They use the same removable T-stat as the LS4's

Colder plugs i wouldnt try till i spray the car (wich will happen). stock plugs now, but when i feel ambitious and investigate how much of a **** show it will be to swap those rear plugs i will change them to NGK TR55's which isa stock equal in non platinum.

It is not too bad changing the rear plugs. Actually the hard part is pulling the plug wires off cause you have almost zero leverage. However it took as long to change one plug in the back as it did to change all 4 in the front.

Well, I've switched completly to shell v-power 91oct. Scanned the car the other night and the only KR I've seen was a very litte burst KR(1-1.5), but a definite drop in KR since the last scan.

Yeah i just looked real close at it last night, it wouldnt be bad at all to change the rear plugs from the top, ill have to kneel on the RAD support to get right on top of the motor for ease but its not any worse than the pass side set of plugs in a F-body lol

Gonna swap them this weekend, Kinda lucked out around here the local fleet/farm has TR55's in stock on the shelf. Still about 15$ for the set of 8 that u pay anywhere else
