Default swapping 07 5.3 for 07 6.0

Does anyone think this could be done? Would it be worth it? Just a thought.

i have seen an ls6 in the previous body style grand prix. i thought the 3800s were crammed in there but they still managed to get a small block in there.

Sure it could be done, turn the engine the right way, do some heavy frame/sheet metal/driveshaft/gas tank/rear wheel modificiations you could have a mean RWD Imp SS. . . .or you could just buy a vette

Biggest issue would be the crank.

It seems all of you know much more than I on this stuff. That is why I brought it up on this forum. I sell chevrolet and cadillac's and a salesman who seems pretty knowledgeable suggested that I put the 6.0 in my car because it is the same lower block just different mounts. As all of you said it sounds pretty worthless to me.

Yah, the 5.3 is squeezed in the way it is, 6.0 is impossible without some heavy heavy modifications.

Why? Is the block really different? I assumed all the LSx blocks were the same and the difference was mostly in the crank, bore, rods, etc. which results in different displacements.

Anyone have any side by side comparisons or real experience with this? I imagine that someone would have already done the swap if it were possible...
please enlighten us all.

The only real issue would be to shorten the ends of the crank around 1 inch total (grinder?). Transfer the accessories over and cross your fingers the tranny doesnt blow, good to go. I'm not so sure of the bellhousing pattern, but relatively sure they are the same (there is a thread in here somewhere about that part)

the ls4 is notched for the starter
the crank is 3mm shorter to clear the crank pulley. the accessory mounting is all one deal. im sure the mounting of the tranny is slightly different. but the acc mounting won't go on the 6.0 or 5.7 or 7.0
just things i know off the top of my head.

if i had the budget of gm, id have a 600 hp ls7 in my gxp. but i don't sooooooo im stuck with the 5.3

Before spending mad money on our FWD cars, I'd wait for the RWD versions to show up in a couple years and mod them. It'll be a lot easier and I don't think I'd want even more torque steer and lack of traction on my car... it's bad enough.

I wouldn't put money on RWD, there is too much demand for FWDs still. I can't wait to see all the Hemi chargers when a little snow hits the ground around here

Have to agree with the last 2 posts.

I think the MCSS is a stout platform that can do 85% of what my big-dog can, PLUS run in 12" of snow.

Can't do the violent burn-outs, but you also can't afford to replace the tires at above $250 / each every season.

Pontiac has already announced there won't be any fwd cars in a couple of years, they are trying to get back the the performance brand.
