Working with HPTuners for DOD controls
I had made another post on their forum asking when DOD control will be availible for LS4's since its on the vette's and they dont have it!
So i sent my file and such to Chris at HPT and he is going to look into getting the DOD switch for us.
This is helpful as i now have an 01 style Z06 cam and yellow springs from an 05' GTO im rebuilding the LS2 on. And a buddy who got a new lift recently so i can easily raise the car off the K member
So within a month perhaps i will have a cam install write up for these cars!

Oh but i will try the DOD on first after the cam lol
Worst it could do is make a bunch of clatter from the lifters and not run as smooth in 4 cyl mode Absolute worst case is damage a lifter. This is why i want the DOD controls so i can just try the 4 cyl thing right in the neighborhood, if it clatters i just shut it off quick and turn off the DOD and resume as normal.
This will be the **** if the DOD works fine after the cam!

Also it will be hard for the computer to time the lifter decativation so it would trap exhaust fumes in the cylinder at the last second like its supposed to do because of the duration and different valve timing events with the Z06 cam.
Do i care? not really. The potential of 50WHP is rather appealing w/o the aid of a blue bottle.

Definitly interested in a cam that will make the LS4 climb like the LS1's, with a conventional valve train (no DoD - period!).
Mine only gains 2 mpg from the DoD, so I'll take the 50 hp please.
At the rate I'm going, I should be outa warranty in another 6 months. Gimme a price to do mine!

?
I know it's easy for me to sit here and give my two cents and not have the ***** (or time and money) to do anything too exotic to my own car, BUT.... What if you disabled the solenoids in the intake valley that activate the oil pressure that engage the dod lifters. It may set a code or two but those could be delt with. Further, but would cost some extra $$, what about installing standard LS2 lifters in the 5.3. I don't know for sure they would fit, but I would bet they do. Then one would have a good ole engine with many many cam choices. Thats just my two cents. I'm still waiting to get a hold of a 6.0 liter block and see if an LS4 crank will spin in it, then if the 6.0 block works with all the LS4 accessory stuff???

6.0L block you would have to drill and tap your own trans mount bolts, also the starter is mounted on the opposite side as normal, so mounting bosses will be an issue.
In another 8-9 months mine will be past warranty as well (drive alot) so im not really worried either lol It would require pulling the heads to put normal lifters in, not intrested in that whole project at this time.
This is my daily driver too, but since gas prices are down from $3.20 to $2.30 a gallon for 93 like when i first bought the car im no longer worried about fuel mileage that much since i generally do all highway driving anyway.

Well so much for the 6.0 liter idea. That is good to know about the lifters also. Thanks again for the info, again. By the way, Intense shift kit should arrive today.

If its like any other wbody you can do the cam through the passanger wheel well. Loosen the cradle bolts on the driverside and remove them on the passanger side. I swapped a cam in my 98 regal GSX and it took about 10 hours. Well worth it, 15psi of boost now is yummy

Yeah the extra cylinders make things tight, the whole cradle will have to drop below the level of the frame rail to silde the cam out. That requires un bolting the cradle and struts and exhaust and possibly many other hoses and wires to get a 8" drop or there abouts.
