Default Anyone using NGK TR55's

I bought a set in August and havent gotten around to putting them in was wonering if anyone was using them. My Z71 and WS6 seemed to idle little smoother and got rid of the kr. I wish I could run autotap on it the old cable dosent seem to work with this car.

I tried them the first time on saturday at .050 and it was a little more sluggish than stock taking off but seemed to make better power up top. I dont think it was idling as smooth at .050 (maybe being a little more picky because I had changed something). On Sunday I switched to .055 and it seems be a lot more responsive and idles a little smoother. It takes less throttle than stock to get it going now, so hopefully my mpg goes up a little.

damn! so what gap should we use in our 5.3L LS4 Monte's??? .035 or .055 ???

and do these plugs last as long as the stockers and are just as good or better??? I noticed on NGK's site that they don't list any for our cars... "We're sorry, no parts were found for this application"

They wont last as long as stock. Its presonal preference really on the gap. I have had the best luck with tighter gaps for overall smoothness and perf. I have TR6's in the camaro gapped at .025"!!! lol That was with a 200 shot though to keep the spark from getting blown out and misfire.

Usually you will see most people at .050 or .055, Im figuring Im going to go back to .050 when I tune it. You are going to get the best power with the widest gap you can run within the plugs specs without detonation. Wider gap hotter spark.

I run them in both gxp and gto. My impression is both cars idle much better with copper plugs.
I know the copper plugs will not last as long as stockers but big deal if you
put plenty of lubricants on the tips for the next time. Getting the boots off
are the hardest part. Cant go wrong with such a cheap plug. Oh by the way the
stockers gap varied quite a bit. Just look at your owners manual for the correct gap.

Damn this car runs good on these plugs. I had to replace one on the 4-21 because it was cracked twice along the length of the plug, must have screwed it up when I regapped. Its weird because the car ran fine for almost a month before it started idling like crap because of the bad plug jumping between 500-650 rpm. After I fixed it the response was even better.

Any way to check this with the Predator? I've got a shuddering idle but not as bad as yours...maybe between 575 and 650...wondering if i need to look at the plugs...but don't want to do that.

Hey Chris... wonder if the Predator would register it as a misfire??

I dont know if the predator will do it but I used to check for misfires with the WS6 on autotap (which I have to upgrade for the Impala ), it would show each cylinder and I believe current misfires and misfire history. Changing the plugs isnt horrible on these cars the only one that is a problem is on the rear all the way to the right, you have to move the transmission dipstick tube over. For the rear side of the engine just get one of those gardners knee pads (foam rectangular thing) and sit it on the core support so you dont kill your knees.

Do plugs really make a big diffrence? Mileage? Performance?

I know the Pred shows options for cylinder misfire and misfire history, but wouldn't that, over time, throw a code? Guess i'll have to find out, huh?

It takes a certain frequency (how often) to cause a problem bad enough to set a code. The cracked plug in mine must have been bad from the time I put it a month ago and was was fine for 3 weeks until the idle went crazy and there were no codes and the car was dipping between 500-650 rpm. You would figure that it would mess with the o2 sensor, knock sensor or something if the car was running that far off. Another thing to look at would be the kr (knock retard), this was the main reason I started using these in my WS6.

The oem plugs are great plugs but were not consistant on the gap.
It doesnt make a huge difference. It will idle and in my opinion run better with copper plugs but you will be replacing them more frequently. To some its worth it but to most probably not.
