Default Impala SS road trip

I just got back from a road trip with my family in our 06 Impala SS. We drove from western PA to South Florida and back. The round trip was 2400 miles in 8 days. The Impala SS was awesome. I averaged 74 mph and 26 mpg going down and 65 mph and 25 mpg comming back. Slower speed comming home because a North Carolina State trooper did not like the speed in which I was traveling. He gave me a ticket and suspended my driving privilages in N.C. for 50 days. So I had to slow down. The fuel economy was low because of the amount of traffic. I had to use 8 cylinders more. The Impala proved to be a superior car than its competition. It had plenty of power, fuel ecomony, comfort, and handling to make the long trip enjoyable. GM did it right with this car.

I just got back from a trip to Florida, 15hrs each way, and averaged 26mpg going 75-80. I get about 2-3MPG better now that I'm running the Diablo DOD tune. I was luckier than you, I got pulled over doing 20 over the limit and only got a warning. Its amazing how much junk can fit in the trunk of these cars. This would be my perfect car if the seats were better. If I could only get a pair of GXP seats...

I could only wish my G/M was close to that.

Now went down to 19.5 / lifetime average acording to the DIC. Drive the same way as I did with the S/C 3800, which got 24.5 LTA.

The MCSS looks more aero efficient, maybe it isn't.

I definitely do mostly city driving, but I am so close to work I still only fill up once a month or 3 weeks or so. Last week, I did a lot of highway driving. I got 320 miles on a tank (well, 284 and my DIC said I had 34 left before empty). I was pretty impressed.

Still wanna ditch the DoD though. For some reason it makes me nervous.

Don’t trust the DIC until you have topped the tank your self and verified the mileage on paper is very close. Non stock tunes will cause the reading to be off. I started watching my truck (daily driver) once I noticed the DIC was telling me my mpg was over 1.5 MPG more than actual which equaled about 10% error.

Yeah the DIC is definately a little sketchy...

I haven't taken the MCSS on any trips yet, but you guys make me want too. Its probably the most comfortable car I have owned and you can fall asleep driving it its so smooth.

You might want to check a NC attorney. They can usually get that changed to improper equipment, no license points, and nothing to your insurance.

I had an 84 in a 60 taken care of for $360. There are a number of attorneys that do this (search the internet) in NC. You tell them the county you were stopped in and they can tell you how much for everything. They handle the court appearance, a waiver on your appearance, fines, and of course their fee. It seems like a racket but much better than license suspension and insurance increase.

Need a State licensed mouthpiece as a general rule. Since the charge (and court appearance) are in NC, need a lawyer from there (or who is licensed there)

Oh ok...I thought that since his license was suspended in NC and he's not a resident there, then there's no points issued and no court appearance necessary.

Yeah PA could care less about the NC suspension. I will not be going to NC for at least a year so 50 days is no big deal. I will probably just pay the $130 ticket. Then again I may call an attorney just to see what he says. If its $300 or less for no points then it may be worth it.

To be honest, i think the DIC is quite accurate...it's never been off by more than .5 for me.

No, not since i installed the Diablo tune. I've not reset my Average Econ since the day i filled up after the Diablo (and right now i'm sitting just above 14mpg, likely from all of the highway logging).

However, from my manual calculations at the pump, i'm still getting 11-12mpg with this noDoD tune, just as i was stock throughout the winter. Eventually i'll reset the DIC to gauge my average to see how it is now with the predator.
