Default Thermo ?

Will a 160* thermo set a code on a stock programmed PCM? Has anyone done this yet on a stock car? Thanks in advance.

You can use a 2005 GTO Thermo:

I went with PFYC.com a sponser here and ordered a 160* for a 05 GTO. My GXP still has the stock programing and I have thrown zero codes in the last year that I have had it installed. I will tell you with the stock programing you will not realize the full potential of a 160* thermostat because the fans will still not come on until the car hits 195* or so. The car does cool down faster when driving with it, but stop and go traffic still heats it up the same because the fans are not coming on any eariler.

Is there a fan mod like the v6 gp to turn on the fans in the GXP without a programer?

I don't see why one couldn't wire a switch to the relay like most everyone else does. I don't know if the ECM can monitor the status of the fans or not though.

I had a switch wired into my Z28 for track runs, that with a 160 thermo made a huge difference on a hot day at the track. If I get bored this weekend, I'll check out the wiring of the fan relays.

Thanks for the replies. I still need to put the thing in. Looks like a pain to get to if I am looking in the right place. Anyone have a pic of where the housing is? Thanks again.
