Default Predator - Modify Tune - Fan settings...

was looking through the predator/modify tune settings tonight, and came to the fan settings... "192* on ECT" up through "230* on ECT" - I think those were the parameters available...

anyway... what are the Diablo Tune No DOD settings set to? What are the stock fans set at??

What is ECT?? Can or should I change the fan settings to help keep the engine cooler? If so, what should I set them at???

Thanks!!

-Lew

You got the answer to ECT at NAIOA...Engine Coolant Temp...but regarding the fans, i don't know if there is a benefit yet to lowering the temp at which they turn on. I'll leave that to someone who knows what the hell they're doing.

It's common to change these when using a different temp t-stat like a 160. I think ours is 180. If I recall correctly there is more than on/off. I seem to rememebr a fan speed percent. I had read that turning them on earlier with a stock t-stat only causes extra wear on the FAN and extra load on the charging system.

I would agree with that statement, I wouldn't adjust the turn on temp. . .

just for everyone else's info, here's what I got back from da-boyz at Diablo...

"You can raise the fan speeds if you want it will help cool the engine,
only thing is that they get kind of loud and some people do not like that."

"If you go into modify the factory hp tune, you can see where all of the
factory fan settings are in the fan parameter. You will likely be hard
pressed to improve the cooling unless you add a cooler t-stat to go along
with it, like a 180°."

The temp gauge always looks higher than the thermostat. I guess if the fan comes on at 192, I would expect the stock one to be 190 or maybe 195. I know the 160 really helped my Z so I'll consider a 160 for this one.

have not swapped it out (nor plan to), but it looks to be pretty brutal. Not much space.

I went with a 160* Thermostat about a year ago. Got it for a 2005 GTO with the LS2 and it works like a charm. Changing it is not that bad if you have about 2 1/2 to 3 feet worth of extensions to attach to your ratchet. Take the socket and extensions and go behind the front exhaust manifold connect your ratchet and go to town on the back bolt. The front bolt you can reach easy from the front with a wrench. It took all of maybe 5 minutes to change out. Remember to drain your radiator at least half way before you take off the thermostat housing or you will have alot of antifreeze running all over the place.

Yep I thought it was a bitch to do, but Compg makes it sound eazy, I think I am going to give it a shot. So 160? Where did you get it at? Advance and autozone only have the 187 stock temp.

Did the 160 AND programmed the fans on my Z to kick in early. Heard you really bump these fans.
