Default Tracked my impala SS

I hit the track last week with my impala. Tons of wheel spin, i had a real hard time getting it off the line. Heres my times
1st pass
r/t .. .667
60'.. 2.480
1/4 14.998
mph 98.01

2nd
r/t .892
60' 2.525
1/4 14.944
mph 99.38

3rd r/t.557
60' 2.383
1/4 14.688
mph 99.72

With drag radials i should be able to get my 60 foot times down to 2.1's and that alone should get my 1/4 mile times to the low 14's.
All my car has is the magnaflow catback and a K&N air filter.

Default First time

Yes,
that was my first time at the track and it was ALOT of fun...even if you don't run well its worth going. I cant wait to go back again. Best thing to do when your there is to walk around and talk to the other people running front wheel drive cars and see what ideas they have for launching their cars. The best advice I can give is get your 60' foot times down. For us in our MC's and Impalas, the most important part of the 1/4 mile run is getting your car to hook up and launch. Compare my et's and my 60' foot times and you'll see what i mean. Even with my best 60 foot time I have alot of room for improvement.

I had my 60 feet at 2.2 and my best 1/4 mile was 14.89 94mph but I live in Calgary and the elevation sucks 3556 ft / 1084 m above sea level.

Your trapping a 98-99 MPH, that is good for a high 13 sec 1/4 mile pass. You shouldn't need DRs or slicks to cut a 2.1 60'. I've been in the W body world for the last 8 years with 4 differn't W bodys. Properly launched you should be able to cut a 2.1s or some people can cut 2.0s on street tires. It's all practice. Looking at your times with a 2.05 60' you should of ran a 13.9 to 14.0 time which isn't bad considering it's nearing summer and it's hard to make power in the heat.
Try this next time launching your car. Brake torque your car to about 2500 RPMs, let off the brake at the same time start putting your foot into it going WOT. Say the word "Hippopotumus" while doing so, when you finish the word you should be at WOT. It seems silly but in the W body world this is a proven method for launching your car.
Also try pumping up the rear tires to around 40 PSI or so to help with weight transfer, and lower the fronts to around 24-26 PSI on street tires for traction at the track.
HTH,
Tate

Congrads on getting out there for the first time. Those are some nice times for the 60fts you have. Looks like there's alot of ET left in there. I've been looking for a good SS, I didn't know that they ran this well, being so heavy.

So heavy?

Your GTO weighs 3725 pounds.

The Monte weighs 3489 pounds.
The Impala is 3712 pounds, but it is a four door car.

I agree with Comp G. I I hit a 2.08 and a 2.06 last night with stock tires so I know you can too! These cars are very hard to launch. I would leave the light at about 1/8th throttle and roll into it. Saying the hippo word sounds about right since it takes about two seconds or so to say the word. I would have the pedal mashed within about 2 seconds. My rear tires were set at 40psi and my fronts were at 27.5. Next time I'm going to run the rears at 44psi! Make sure that you race with about 1/8 of tank of gas, and shift at 5800-6100! You running the same MPH as I am and I'm all stock so... please tell me that you left it in drive, or else I'm afraid to say that you wasted your money on the bolt ons.

Just for clarification, I was mistaken, when he said SS I kinda forgot what forum I was in and I was thinking the LT1 94-96 SS. And to let you know my Goat weighs 3655. And for the record all of these cars are heavy, give me a break!
