Question silly question...

i know the differences between the LS2 and LS4, revolving around making it front-drive, but my friend asked me today, whats the difference between them that makes the LS2 require Mobil 1 oil, yet the LS4 doesn't... any ideas?

I have been doing the synthetic oil in my last few SBC vehicles, around 7K between changes and have not had a lick of trouble (well, due to oil, the LT1 is finally going to be put back together this weekend, lousy catcon clogged up, wasted a ton of time ripping the engine apart), but after pulling the intake and lifters, after 235K miles of syn oil, there is no sludge to speak of. After seeing that, I will never use dyno oil again in any car I own. LS1, LS2, LS3...etc.

Better than other Synthetics or other oil in general? Synthetic is just flat out better than standard dino oil, for starters...but better than another synthetic like Amsoil or something else? Personal preference, really.

Walmart has the 5-qt. bottles for $24. I bought 2 this weekend so i'll just need to buy one next time and still have some to add in between should i need to.

Interesting, though, when i changed my oil the other day i got almost 6qts out...surprising since i only got 4.5 or so from my last drain. Little to no burn off over the last 5000 miles.

Eddie, i've been going by the DIC/OLM...usually letting it get down to 3% or so before i do it. Did my first M1 (second change overall) at 7400; next at 13,700; next at 18,200 and last at 23,100...each time going by the OLM. This last time, i actually went 7% beyond 0 on the OLM b/c i didn't have the time to change it We'll see what blackstone says about that.
