Default K&N and dealership

I just got my K&N and I want to install it so bad! The problem is, I have to take my car in for it's routine checkup and to fix my little laundry list of rather trivial problems in a couple weeks.

If I install my intake before I take it in to the dealership, what are the chances they're going to give me a hard time about it? I know they technically need to prove problems are caused by the intake, but I don't feel like dealing with any hassles...

Anyone else bring their car in for work without removing their intake? Have any problems?

I've had mine in at several visits and no problems. Well, unless you call having about 10 service writers and techs checking out your engine bay everytime you come pick up your car a problem.

I know others have had similar experiences. How? B/C I asked the same question a while back.

I'm a Service Manager for a dealer which shall remain namelss, our rules are as follows: If your mods do not affect the issue you currently have with a vehicle, then no worries. For an intake, we look for complaints such as a check engine light or shift point issues, which GM has addressed in TSB's. Other than that, we could really care less, other than the above mentioned gawking...

I have had mine on my Grand Prix for 7 years and I have had no issues with the dealership and my old warranty.

If you get too much oil on the k an n it can mess with the MAF. . .

Or if you lose the screen *cough*buff*cough* it can screwe with your MAF readings as well

FWIW, never had a problem with mine installed...but i've also never complained about wierd shift points...which do occur once in a while. I routinely spray down the MAF to keep that from happening. I still find it hard to perfectly oil the K&N.

Getting enough but not too much is a bitch. Wonder if hooking up a shop vac to the filter and running it for awhile would suck most of the excess out?

I thought about stuffing a bunch of old t-shirts in it to suck up the excess, but my wife throws them out.

you guys using the regular oil, or the spray one? I've got the spray one, since it would seem easier to get just enough oil on the filter... spray a light coat, let it soak in, check it... and spray another light coat if needed... seems with the spray there'd be less chance of over-oiling...

not sure yet though, as I haven't had to clean my filter yet... and it's been about a year...

about every month or so I use my shop vac to vacuum off anything that's on it - so the friggin' thing still looks brand new, with no buildup on it...

I use the spray as well. I've only over oiled the Z once. Ever since the MAF post I've check and have not seen any oil in the air tubes. I just want to be careful.

I would recomment cleaning the TB. too much oil would clog up the TB.
shift points would change. or you would feel a slight lag in performance.. ( SOYP )..

I have cleaned out TB. and noticed that the shift points and performance was regained.

I am not sure if this is the right thing to do. but it helped for me.

k&n 33K.. amsoil.

It's the Magnusson-Moss Warranty Act, more specifically.

I brought another cone, so when the winter time hits, I will take out the one I have in there now, and put in the new one for the winter months. During that time, i will clean the old one and let it dry for awhile, and when spring hits, I will have a dry, oiled K&N to put back in thats clean.
