I wouldn't be to worried about your auto I used to own a 04A4 my mods were 60deg thermastat, highflow cats&SLP loudmouth exhast, K&N cai, superchips tuner. drag raced all the time, constantly pulled out 12.85@109/12.98@109 and a whole bunch of 13.00@108. loved my 04 alwaysed ripped on stock/lightly modded 05/06 GTO's. answer to your question yes you will eat our LS4's hands down!!!

I'm going to have to disagree with you on that one. used to own one, borrowed to my brother brought it back home totaled now I'm cross shopping ls1 or ls2? test drove an ls2 wasn't to impressed over ls1.Now I made up my mind I like the sleeper look and the exhaust to one side, and the simplicity of a cable trottle body.from a 04Ls1 and going back to a 04ls1, I do not like all that extra software garbage invating my engine!!!! PS do you know what your SS is running on a used market? It'll never holds it value as the rare Ls1GTO PERIOD! THERES NOTHING BAD ABOUT INVESTING IN A RARE LS1GTO.

Geez why so defensive, everybody has opinions man. Gto's are nice, but I would take my impy any day over one, for the simple room it has.

That's one of the things stopping me from getting into a GTO...the lack of trunk and fold down seats....

Personally I'd prefer an LS2 GTO, but what do I know haha. Liked them but as hexxLS4 said I too wanted the room. I wanted 4 doors as well so that's what kept me from gettin the MC as well. When I got my SS they had a real nice fully loaded black MCSS on the lot.

Yeah it just seems like a 400hp 3700-3800 fat *** like the GTO would have loads of trunk space. Me--><--GM They better get it right with the G8.

As for the LS1 vs LS2 debate, I see no reason why the LS1 would be more desirable than the LS2 version. the fact that they're just not as common doesn't hold enough weight. LS2 = more power, better looking....I guess maybe someone with a crap load of LS1 mods from their old F-Body might want it over an LS2...

Unfortunately, the GTO never was welcomed by the US market.

If you think back to '04, GM was hard pressed to get rid of them in '05 and beyond. Only when they Americanized the car (hood scoops, dual exit exhaust) did the car sell, but did it meet sales expectations? So they may be rare, but no one wanted one of the 18,000 when they were originally imported.

I test drove the GTO against my MCSS in '06 ... MCSS won by a landslide for overall functionality. But they didn't sell many of them either.

The US market wants 4-doors.

Back on topic - I'm not afraid of a LS1 GTO, but I usually "change the radio station" or "call someone" if a LS2 GTO wants to play.

I wouldn't call the LS1 GTO a bad investment. Also about as many people were pissed about having the LS1 GTO as people who were pissed when the LS4's came with FWD!!

When I went to the track last July, there was a 5.7L GTO running 14.24's-14.5@99. I think it was an 04. It was a six speed and he was leaving the line pretty good too. My car was ripping off 14.0's and I even got it into the 13.9s. I raced a 6.0 GTO that same night, and he ran a 12.3@117mph spinning half way down the track! That car was mean!

You could say the same for the people who bought the 04/05 monte carlo's.
I had the 2002 Monte Carlo SS AP i was happy i wrecked it so i could get the 06. Now that i think about it the older monte carlo's are kinda sad compaired to now. What killed it in the end is the big diffrence in look between the monte carlo's The normal 2000/2004 SS's looked like crap unless you got the apperience package. Its amazing what a body kit some decent rims and a spoiler will do for a car.

I thought the front / rear ends of the '06+ MCSS's were much needed enhancement.

I might have seen the new Z06 and MCSS the same day at the proving grounds in '04, couldn't wait for my '05 to come off lease to pick one up.

Best looking MCSS ever, IMO. As much as I liked my '85, with the V8 now it doesn't come close.

I agree.

A FWD V8?? JK guys.

An A4 GTO will be faster at the track. M6's are hard to launch. Either way Im sure it will be a good race. Get sticky tires, and make sure you lower trq mngt and the car will scream.

A4's are easier to launch, but the best M6 time will be faster then the best A4 time.

The reason for the lack of trunk space was that when the GTO was imported to the US they moved the gas tank into the trunk and it had a steel brace around it. And they arent that heavy my goat scaled at 3660 with a almost full tank. My Firehawk was 3525.

I dont see how a LS4 will beat either GTO but I would still race one just to put a scare into them.

When I raced my goat we had about 5 LS1's and the slowest ran 13.5 or 13.6 LS2's about .3 quicker on average.

Your car runs pretty good with your minimal mods! No wonder a stock one feels slow to you.
