I also took off the rubber weatherstrip at the rear of the bay...maybe it will help in the winter to melt some of the snow/ice off the windshield, too.

Is there a reason we're concerned about the underhood insulation? Are we thinking it has some effect on the underhood temps in a negative way?

yes, that's the thinking... maybe that material is actually holding in more engine heat rather than letting it get out... maybe if that material was removed, the heat would escape/dissipate faster/easier...

I'm just concerned with all the engine heat these things put out cookin' the paint on the hood and screwin' something up...

Reading between the lines it seems some are worried about heat build up. I personally think it’s more for sound dampening. If I had the open K&N I’d be more concerned about retained heat and would look for ways to disperse it.

I’ll have to get the under hood temp really hot and use a temp gun to measure the heat at the rear of the hood before and after removing the strip everyone is talking about. I doubt I will remove the insulation from the underside of the hood.

I wonder and am not sure any one mentioned the insulation and strip at the rear could also reduce the air flow in the event of an engine fire. I would think if you opened up the flow by removing the rear strip you would create a fresh air feed to the fire.

yeah, but I wouldn't think that smaller engine puts out/generates as much heat as these things do... these things get very HHHHHHOT....

Maybe my heat extractors remove the heat enough to cause no damage.

What do you think heat extractors would do on the SS?

Well, I have the inferno hood on mine, so no underside insulation and it has heat extractors. No problems so far through the whole VA nasty summer (knocking on wood).

On GP Forum one member has that hood on my GXP same color everything. Looks sick as hell so aggresive looking. I heard some peoples have had issues with the hood cracking though.
