Default The race was closer...

I'm here to tell ya, I gain a lot of respect today for the little Cobalt SS. One of the guys at work brother showed up in his Cobalt SS. After taking a few of the guys for a ride, they came in and told me his car was faster than mine. OK... let's go see this little s#&t... I look it over and the kid is burning the tires in first and second gear (manual trans). So everybody starts egging me on, so I cave and go get my car. We wheel out onto the street and the little is already moving, so I assumed he wanted to go from a roll. He's about two car lengths ahead of me, so I nail it and watch his rear end dig down too. I flew pass him in a blink and we get to the end of the street and turn around he pulls up next to me and this time we are going from a dead start.

Well, I figured I went pass him the first time so fast that I would give a little bit of a head start. So he said go, I give a car length before I nail it. BIG MISTAKE! That little thing pulled 2-cars easy in first gear, and another half-car (2-1/2 total) in second, it wasn't until he shifted into third gear that the Monte pulled along side and after that, it was all the Monte. But that little car eat my asre out of the hole!!!

All the guys at the dealership were laughing there butts off at how he got me out of the hole, and then the expression on the kid's face as I flew pass him. The kid said it sounded like a funny car flying by him... I wish! But, The Black Attack sounds GREAT at WOT

All in all, I would own a Cobalt SS, that is one little bad to the bone car!

I have not lost to a Cobalt SS yet. Ran one at the track couple weeks ago I beat it by .6 of a second.

A good driver in a Cobalt SS can really surprise a lot of people. There underrated from GM. There probably more like 240hp then 200, not to mention fairly light.

stock cars put down 200 to the tire.
stage 2 cars put down between 230-240, depending on the dyno.
after that is anyones guess. stock is good for about 98-100 mph. stage 2 is good for about 103-105 depending on the driver.

whats with the ls4 guys picking on us lil 2.0 liters?!?!

hehehhe

Any small, light, supercharged 4 will be fast. Do you want a bigger car with a V8 or a little **** box with a 4 banger?? I know my answer.

my **** box has zero rattles. unlike the gxp
my **** box doesn't snow plow in corners like the gxp did.
my **** box doesn't eat brakes every 15k miles.

it would have taken my gxp a min of a 75 shot to keep up with the shitbox.

would i ever buy another gxp? probably not.

only things i miss from the gxp.
the room, invisibility to everyone, remote start from the factory.

different strokes for different folks.

It's just two different philosophies...in the end it's just HP and the winner. I love the big snarl of a big v8 muscle car....but them little high reving 4 bangers are fun as hell to drive too.

If I were ever to "race" someone, I always try to stay 1/2 a car ahead, and no more. That gives the minivan dad next to me a little thrill he got the van instead of the flashy red 2-door.

But in this case, with the dog 2nd gear, you really can't play with someone, so you have to go for more off the line.

I had a Z26 3.1 Beretta that was 90's fast. Fun corner carving car that was fun to drive, good gas milage. Thought this Cobalt SS would have been a great replacement for it. Good design.

My MCSS has 36K in one year w/ no BSR's. Original tires and brakes. I use my MCSS for my utilitarian needs, so the interior and trunk size is important.

The "want" catagory for me is the 2 doors.

I have no rattles in my Monte Carlo. 27,000 miles and it has the same brakes. Maybe because it's a Chevy.

I had a friend that had one. Not a bad little car and very respectable for a 4 banger.

They're alright cars, but sometimes its the guys driving them.

And as a general rule, I stopped giving imports respect and giving them the hit---they can suck down my exhaust gases...

I'am a dragstip fanatic and I have seen several of those cobalt SS's at seperate times with different owners and the best I've seen if I can remember correctly was 14.9@96mph. ps if I wanted somthing fun to drive, it would have to be a 5.7 cable driven GTO. just my 1/2cent.

fun is perceived differently by different people. Take your pick...brawn or brains?
