Default Need some opinions...

My wife wants a Monte Carlo SS really bad. I saw one, a 2004 with the supercharged v-6 for 11,000. It has 49,000 miles on it, is black, 17" factory 5 stars, and already has a smaller pulley, custom exhaust, and cai. It is probably throwing down 285hp and over 300 ft lbs of torque. It is really nice and I think the price is really good. A dealer is selling it, BTW. What do you guys think? Thanks in advance.

Regards,

-Mike

...And that 2004 is NOT pushing 285whp with those little mods.

I don't see why it couldn't hit close to that at the crank if it had some headers and KR wasn't an issue. 45hp isn't a far cry. Those cars are already super high torque out of the box...what like 280??

At 11k, it doesn't sound like a bad buy to me. What are they blue booking for?

Is it for sale at a GM dealership? If so, it could/should be "GM Certified". And I stress GM Certified (not Joe Blow Chevrolet certified). This means you will have a 3 month 3,000 mile bumper to bumperish warranty, along with a 5 yr 100,000 mile powertrain warranty through GM. This would make a modified used car a little easier to swallow. If you get me the vin#, I can tell you what was done to the vehicle, repair wise, while it was under warranty.

yep...you should be able to find all out that out easily with the VIN. Make sure you use the fact that it's modified as an argument to get a lower price on it. Be rough with them!

I had a 2001 GT and a 2000 GTP. The GTP was 240 chp, and 280 ctq stock. The Monte has the same engine as the GTP. The one I am looking at does anyway.

Best Regards,

-Mike

This car your interested in, has never been in for any warr repairs. Bought new in Shrewsbury NJ. on 11/08/03. Now you have to ask the dealership if it is, or will be GM Certified.

Thanks for the info. I am not sure if that is a good thing or bad thing?... If I can get them down any on price and it comes with a GM warranty then I may but it, if not, then I will stay away from it. Thanks again.

Try to get a stock one if you can......if not - you are probably ok, but make sure it is certified like everyone else said.

I'd stick with a stocker... mods are just bad sometimes when buying a used car.
