Default Steering Rack a clunk'n

Whoooo hoo I get a new steering rack!. Took the car in today to check the muted clunk i was getting at low speed. First they though something was up wit hth e strut so they messed with th at, no fixy. Found my rack had some play... so the new rack should be in in the morning. Also trying to get them to resurface my rotors..got a puslation. Mileage 10,800. All in all I find both things rather unususal relative to milage and platform age......

yeah, getting my rack replaced in 2 weeks (my next day off) - they tried replacing the ISS first, but that didn't do anything... had my rotors resurfaced about 8 months ago...

I've currently got 42,5xx miles on her...

The steering rack seems to be a new "common" issue with the new W-bodies...i may be in line for one as well...will know more in a couple days as she goes under the knife again tomorrow for multiple issues they could not get to last week.

The rotors have been discussed before...many have had issues already. I've gotten them resurfaced twice, and that was in the first 13,000mi. They've been fine since, but it's time for some new ones.

I wonder if they are using cheap steel for the rotors....I'm really not that hard on the brakes, except for the track. Island dragway you gotta get on the brakes like you are comming in for a friggen landing. I might just have to go to rock auto and get some Raybestos rotors or something. I've thought about ebay drilled and slotted but i dont know. My '92 has smaller brakes and I get a whole bunch more milage out of them. Oddly enough the stereing has lot some of its ininital crsipness. And when I got the car it was pretty damn crisp, never had a car respond so well to steering inputs...HAHA I have a fresh reman rack in my garage for my '92, maybe I outgh to slap itinthere lolool! its' very heavy on steering feel.

From what i've heard, GM uses cheap chinese blanks for their rotors, which is why they go bad so quickly.

Sint3k just installed the R1concepts rotors (not just an eBay company)...they get rave reviews with the 00-05 Impala crew at NAIOA. I'm hoping he has the same feeling, b/c those are on my list for next spring.

Took about 60 miles for the rotors to smooth out. I've put 800 miles on the brakes now. "Went on vacation in car" Definitely better then OEM. Still have not installed the new pads that i bought with them. I figured i would use the old pads to brake in the rotors. Dosn't matter in 3 weeks i get sentenced to prison. Wish me luck

You really pissed someone off across the internet, huh?

And regarding the breaking in of the rotors, you are supposed to "bed in" the pads and rotors at the same time so that the surfaces mate properly.

So after you get paroled, you might want to install the new pads and re-bed them properly.

if you're still able to walk/drive normally, that is... he may be sick of getting bedded by the time he's out...

In my past life i was a hacker "before the FBI raided me". They claim i hacked some hospitals and caused them to reboot. Biggest mistake of my life but its hard to stop doing something you've been doing sence your 10 years old. The reason they found me was because i stoped everything i was doing and i felt it was safe to not hide anymore. But what they are claiming i did happen a year before. Live And Learn i suppose. I'm not really concerned with prison it's my family and how hard it will be for them without my income and what-not.

Holy chit, man! An '08 loaner? My wife would love that thing. I can't believe they'd let that out for a warranty repair.
