Oh you dont have to remind me that the LSX can do anything. I hope this engine is in production for a very long time its so good.... I'm just saying that running any engine up to 8000 is a bit excessive for an everyday car, and most bmw owners run their cars everyday. There is so much wear and heat at that speed. Those engine will be blowing smoking at 40K... I mean the engine is what 4 liters? Moving a car that weighs over 3500 lbs, with a power peak like that I can't imagine it being all that strong down low. But at least it's not like a honda s2000. Meh to each his own, I just prefer a broad and resposive powerband, and an engine that doesnt need to strain. I also want a motor that does not consume so much fuel. I'm a pushrod fan for those reasons. Simplicity of design makes all this possible.

The Corvette and the Viper single handedly keep proving OHV is more than relevant. That Blue Devil is going to just be the best peformer.....

If it's an '03 it is the E46. They've been out since '01.

The 3.2L V6 in the E46 revved over 8000rpm too and I haven't heard anything about those engines really going. I think the 4.4L V8 will be fine. Plus, it's not like you would be taking it above 8000rpm, or even 7000rpm in everyday driving.

Ya I'm sure you can build a LSX to rev that high, but c'mon, not too many people have done this and you can bet they aren't street cars. Bottom line is pushrod engines will never be as rev happy as overhead cam engines. Don't get me wrong, I'm all about LSX engines. But the thought of reving a V8 that high sends chills down my spine regardless of who makes it. And just look at the specs on the new M3 engine, you can't deny its a badass powerplant.

Exactly. this thing hits max torque @ 3900rpm, it gets plenty of grunt down low, and can rev to over 8k.
It is over 60 grand though. You could make a push rod engine go pretty damn fast for that.

I built a 3400 coupled to a 4T60-E that I also rebuilt. That combo HAPPYILY ran to 7000rpm everyday, some serious low end with touchy response..... Yeah my engine was cammed pretty good, stock heads, LS6 valve springs 3500 upper intakes blah blah blah. I think its very possible to make a pusherod engine with an exteneded range of operation that will last. The question is why make it like that when they make good power already though???

I'm not saying you should do it, just that for the 60k you could do it, and more.

Your GP has the DOHC 3.4 in it right? I assume you're talking about a regular 3.4 not that one?

The car in question that I'm talking of was my old '93 GP that though at one time had a 3.4 TDC I pulled it in favor of a 3400. unfortunately the car took a header into the jersey wall... The car I have now is a 3.4 TDC with a Getrag 284 standard transaxle. I am Chevrolet 60degree V6 enthusiast. As much as I enjoy other engines those kinda have a place with me.
