So looking at some warranty stuff people are always doing with the tranny's got me thinking. A factory warranty can be used anywhere. Meaning you should be able to go to Pep Boys with your car if it's still under warranty, they fix it and charge GM for the cost of fix.
If this would work with little things why do people not go to a reputable tranny shop when they have tranny issues and have the tranny shop build a tranny for them. On the invoice if it talks 2nd gear clutches it doesn't have to say who made them. And so on for the entire tranny. I don't see why this would not work. And if for some reason you couldn't do it with the GM factory warranty then what about getting a cheap after market warranty and doing this.

That's a big grey area. GM will not usually pay for repairs at a non GM shop. If they were to pay for repairs at a non GM shop, there would have to be an agreement that that shop use GM parts and GM will determine the labor time and rate for the repair. Invoices would have to submitted with part no.s to GM. This in turn makes it very undesireable to do warranty work, vs customer pay work, even at a dealership.

This is the first I've heard that a factory warranty could be used elsewhere...sounds good, but unlikely.

Kinda reminds me of a insurance claim , When your car is being repaired use the money for aftermarket parts. As for warranty repairs i beleive it says you can only have a car repaired at a non dealership in emergency situtations or something like that.

The aftermarket warr would be an ok idea, you could maybe get away with aftermarket parts, and still take it to the dealership.

As far as I understand, if you're still under factory warranty repairs have to be done at a GM dealership. Which dealership it doesn't matter. I guess you could go to a freakin SAAB dealership if you wanted. But I just extended my warranty with the GM majorguard. Now this warranty I believe I can pick where I want my car to be repaired. And you can bet your *** it won't be at the stealership!
