Painted engine cover questions

Painted engine cover questions Guys,
I purchased a 08 LaCrosse Super in January. Looking over this forum the painted engine cover appealed to me. Today I went by to see the body shop I use and ask them about painting the cover. I figure they have a lot of experience painting plastic. It being President's day the owner was there but the guys had the day off but I go back later this week when I have the time.
The owner of the shop asked me to you guys about your experience with a painted engine cover. Do any of you have problems with the heat causing the paint to flake off, also do you have problems with the heater hoses laying on it all the time? Do you leave the painted cover on all the time or have a spare one and only put on the painted one for show?
I have seen some very pretty covers. I am planning on painting it and will post pictures when it is done.
I'd appreicate any comments - good or bad.

I used regular metallic silver Duplicolor spray with a high temp clear enamel afterward. I have no problems with flaking, although it seems to be yellowing a bit. However, it could be just dirt, as I haven't cleaned the bay over the winter.
The heater hoses have "melted" the paint a bit beneath them, but you wouldn't notice it unless you lifted the hoses to see it.
