Default kN cai OR drop in?

I inspected the airbox on my 08 im ss and it looks like it flows pretty good. Is it worth the extra $$$$ for the CAI or just buy a drop in for 40 bucks?

FWIW, the consensus is that you should go with the intake. Improved flow over the stock unit, and a better, smoother flow from the elbow.

I can't imagine you couldn't get this info from a search. A list of anyone's mods likely included some sort of CAI...not a drop-in filter. Not to mention the two beasts you have in your garage. Even if they flowed OK, wouldn't you have replaced the OEM intake anyway, just to eek out another couple HP?

I am trying to not modd another car, but I cant help it! I installed a Orielly KN knock off air filter and a home made CAI set up and it def has seat of pants. I keep telling my self I will not mod another car! Its even my wifes car!

I have a K&N Drop in filter for sale right now. It has about 4,000 miles on it (about 11 months old) for say $25 shipped. Let me know.

CAI.... Its worth it, might save you some gas and make some power, plus it sounds good on a big motor!

Nada. With the K&N, it's exposed to whatever elements make its way to the filter. Every once in a while I spray the ECM & TCM down with elec. parts cleaner just to wash the salt off. So far, so good. If you buy the coldairinductions enclosed kit (about $100 more than the K&N), you'd be safer, but no one thus far has complained about a failed ECM due to the locaton with the K&N.

This is relevant to me, as well.. I'm thinking about doing a home-brew, since it's so easy to do, but would the K&N be worth it over about 60$ for piping? I have the filter already, so that's not an issue. Other thing is, would wrapping the computer in heat-resistant plastic make it a bit safer than open elements?

Most people from what i hear are just leaving it open, since it can have anything come through it in the air box, Im sure its waterproof. I pieced together a kit form Oreileys auto for under $50 bucks for a Specter air filter and ran a tube behind the head light to the ll grill that helped alot with a cold air charge.

Yeah, I saw that. I don't quite understand how you did that though. Plus, I have a Monte, so I can't really route it down like that unless I want to do the botom grill, which I don't. But I believe I have most of that just laying about, so I'll see what I can rig together..
