Trans is toast...Just outside of ext warr... Hi all.
My trans is DONE. It slipped out of gear in the rain on one of Houston's busiest freeways yesterday at 5:00. Good thing it crapped out in front of a bar. After pushing through three lanes of traffic in the rain (in a suit, no less), I needed a cold beer or two (one to drink and one to whack the headcase that kept honking at me while I pushed my car to the side of the road.) Anyhow, I bought the car used in November '07 with 3 months of extended warranty which ended in February. Funny stuff. Now I'll be buying a tranny from Dave (seems like a good guy) with all of the good stuff. I may never mod it, but the trans should be good...I hope. REALLY didn't plan on dropping that kind of cash right now, but there isn't a ton I can do about it.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say not well. He traded it in for a new GXP though, so at least he liked the car. Not so cool for me, though. I've busted a few trannies in the past, but never on an unmodified car. I drive like a grandpa 99% of the time too. I was just about to swap out the trans fluid with Amsoil Mercon VI. Well, if they have to drop the motor, it might not be a bad time to consider a cam swap. Wish we had some stinkin' headers available (not that I need to spend the money.)

Parts of a apache helicopter are designed to only last so long. The military sells them as a parts per hour.

I definitely belive in factory engineered obsolesence (I have a toploader Panasonic VCR that has outlasted everything since because it was created in the time when obsolesence was a bad thing--although the woodgrain and ***** are dated but cool). I DO NOT AGREE WITH IT, but I get it. That being said, right now I really wish gear vendors had an over/underdrive unit for us. I don't even know if it's possible for FWD, but I just think it'd be cool.

Factor in "cost saving" and "low cost suppliers" (Mexico and China) and you have your answers.
I was taught by the Army to take car of your equipment so it will take care of you - we didn't abuse it any more than necessary inserting in case we needed it to get out.
Same applies with these trannys - it's a FWD, not a 12-bolt. I rarely have the traction control kick in because I don't let the thing slip any more than by accident. To me it has the potential to be a weak point.
