Default HUD From a GTP..

So I found a junked 2004 GTP, with a HUD and all that good stuff.. Here's what I'm wondering: What all do I need to rip out for the HUD to work in my new Monte? I can get "Whatever I need" for 80$ according to the guy.

This could be a real challenging project. I believe that the HUD is controlled through the BCM. The BCM also controls remote start, keyless entry, VATS....

You might want to do a bit of searching before committing to this. Maybe your BCM is compatible with the HUD, if not, this swap could cause a lot of problems.

p.s. there is a special (expensive, ask me how I know) windshield used in the GXP so that the HUD output is reflected/visible. Not sure how well it will work with a regular windshield.

Ah, you know, I forgot about that. They use that coating along the inside. Amusingly, I can get the entire engine, for 800. It's in the junk yard for massive rear end frame damage. This'll be a good start for my as-of-yet undecided project. Thinking if I pull the entire engine (I don't know what was IN the 04 GTP) along with the tranny, and computer, I'll be set to put it in whatever I make.

L32 Motor with an Eaton Gen 5 Supercharger, 4t65e-HD Tranny and a PCM. They did not change over to the TCM/BCM combo untill 2007

GTP's had BCM's at least as far back as 1997.

Ah, sweet. Thanks for the information. I've been out of the GM loop for some time. Sadly, I won't be doing anything untill I figure out if my insurance is going to cover the giant crack in my windsheild. Some trucker thought it would be funny to drive over a gravel patch on the highway = chipped front end\windsheild. I am not a happy man right now.

I believe a friend of mine took a HUD from an older GTP or Bonneville and was able to get it to work in his 3rd gen w/o too much hassle. I might be able to get a hold of him and see if he remembers what he did. I remember us talking about how it worked even w/o the special windshield. I think it just wasn't as clear or bright. This was quite a few years ago too though.

That would be a huge help if you could.

The special glass allows a sharper focus/better image. A number of the GP guys have added HUDs to their non-HUD cars and report the display to be fine. YMMV

A question to anyone who knows, or has done this: is there just a tiny projector bulb, akin to the one like my compass\temperature detector?
