Default Magnaflow Catback Question

Hey all, I was thinking of getting the magnaflow cat-back system for my monte ss. I had heard that on some of the impala and gxp's the tips stuck out really far, is this the case for the monte carlo ss's too? What did everyone do to get the tips to look more flush with the bumper?

Use the clamps that are in the kit, if the tips seem too long, get the local muffler shop to do a little trimming.

Mine shot out like cannons in the Imp, and I couldn't get them shortened b/c they were not in line with the exit on the muffler. On the Monte they're in line, so you can cut a short bit off if need be.

What did that guy on NAIOA do? The guy who had the blacked out headlights like you? I believe he had the MF tips but had them so they fit completely flush.

I had one of the first systems, my tail stuck past the bumber at least 1/4" when cold, hot was 3/4".

Buff located me these tail pipes which I cut the supplied tips off and mounted these to be flush with the black piece when hot. I think Corny got the last two from them and they haven't reordered them since.

Your welcome, Kaz

rbrow53 @ NAIOA said the install shop was able to fine tune the install so that they fit w/o modification. I just didn't like those MF tips in the first place (which I just recently sold for $75). Too "bubbly" in my opinion. Just not aggressive enough. I went with the slash-cut TBSS tips instead. I just need to get them adjusted now. They stick out too far, which i liked at that moment, and now they're hanging too low. Going to use some metal plumbing straps to hold them up higher and eventually get them redone properly.

Here's what they used to look like:

Mine stick out about as far as Buffs and I have a Monte. I've gotten use to them but I will probably find different tips

I'd like to get the MF catback someday, but I'd definetly have to modify those tips to make them fit better.

I was wondering if changing the tips of the MF will change the sound of the exhaust? By the looks of my tips they are resonated atleast that's what I think the small holes in the tips are.

I think all you have to do to adjust the height is bend the hangars.

It cost under $20 to have the local muffler shop weld the tips on. Git 'er done and post some pics!

Here are the TBSS slash-cut stainless 3.5" tips that are on there now:

My tips hung out like a lil pecker; so I took off the tips and shaved a little off them and the muffler now they are flush. Pissed me off no matter how much I banged the exhaust they would not go flush.

I didn't try as hard since I didn't like the tips anyway...but now I just need to bring the new ones in more. Problem with the Impala is that the tailpipe is not straight from the muffler. It bends towards the outside and there is very little pipe to cut out to make them any shorter. If you have a tip that is longer than the puny stock tips, you'll have a hard time making them fit if the system as a whole cannot be adjusted to make it work.

It sounds like it will be a pain for me get the m/f tips flush. But at least I it is possible, as I i really like the M/F tips. I guess when I get the system I'll just put it up and keep kicking and banging on it until i like the way it looks, lol.

Default Sorry no side pic...

This is what I did but I'm taking the Mags off and adding an SLP Loudmouth Res. where the resonator used to be.

I have it and I am getting new tips, along with flowmaster mufflers, the super 44's and also I replaced the res from magnaflow with a straight pipe from Hogan. In the end, I just wish I wouldve gotten the SLP loudmouth system, and thats if it really does match up or have a shop fab up a 2.5 to 3" kit for me.

I guess I plan on shaving them down as well, since i like the MF tips. May be a dumb question, but how'd you shave them down?

Mine fit flush. They're 4" slanted tips, Magnaflow.

Are those the stock tips, b/c I didn't think they were slanted?

Does anyone have any pics of the compete magnaflow cat-back (stock tips and all) on a Monte Carlo SS?
