Pass key reprogram help on Monte
Does the 06 Monte Carlo SS have Passkey III or Passkey III+ ??? Can I tell by looking at the key? There is a + on the key I have. What is the difference between the two systems?
I had to replace the exciter ring with a used one from another 06 Monte and the engine will not crank and I get a "service theft deterrent system" on the dic.
I have tried to reprogram with the 30 minute cycle for the Passkey III but nothing is happening? Also, how can I find out what option codes my engine has? By the vin?
This is an engine swap so I don't have the car, just all wire harnesses and computers.
Thanks for any insight into this.
Rick

Im not 110% sure, but I believe the book tells you its a Passkey III+ or IV. It will also tell you how to reprogram your key and remote.
If you need anyhelp, please let me know.

Thanks for that link, it helps explain some things.
However, I don't need to reprogram a key or remote. I think since I changed to another exciter module in the steering column I need the theft system to work with the "new" part. I need the bcm to "accecpt" the new exciter.
The bcm, ecm, and key all came from the same car, only the exciter was from another Monte that I think has a different code in it that is preventing the engine to crank.
Thoughts?

I know the video looks like a mess, but I had to hear it run before I put it away for a wile.

The "shop manual" says that to date there IS NO way to reprogram the Pass Key + so I was forced to use the smashed VTM.
Thanks for the help.
