Performance resonator for the LS4
I finally got an answer from Dynomax (the performance division of Walker Muffler) about replacing the OE resonator on my Buick Lacrosse Super with a less restrictive one. The only one they currently stock is for the 2005 Pontiac GXP (part no. 24235) but it will also fit the Super. Their customer rep said it should make my exhaust note a little louder without sounding raspy. I hope so.

Note: The catback system (with resonator) for the '05 Pontiac GXP is shown on page 65.

resonators have essentially zero restriction, the only performance gain from swapping one for the other will be because your wallet is lighter, thus making your total running weight slightly less...

Thanks for all the suggestions. However, I don't want an exhaust note loud enough to **** off my wife while we're on long trips. Also, what guarantee do I have it won't sound too raspy if I eliminated the resonator?

I've heard it's raspy without it and I've heard other people say it's not, so I guess there is no guaruntee. I would just leave the stock res on there personally if you want a res on there.

I installed flowmasters wanting a louder sound and wasn't satisifed so i removed the resonator and it did nothing to make it louder IMO. I ended up with a exhaust cutout to get the sound i wanted. To me it was a little more raspy but only when free reving

My fears have been put to rest after seeing this video:

I knew I'd someday find a video of an LS4 powered car with stock mufflers and its resonator removed. The exhaust doesn't sound too loud, and I'm not worried about interior noise because of Buick's "Quiet Tuning" system, which uses several layers of sound-deadening materials.

Sounds stock to me. Trust us. Alot of us have done this. Removing the resonator does 0 to nothing to your car. Swap the mufflers for something cheap and remove the Res. Here's an example of my exhaust. Resonator delete, magnaflow knockoffs.

well if you go with a resonator and no mufflers it would gain more power. i've seen in a jegs magazine where slp has a resonator catback with no mufflers. it gained about 20-25 hp on a ls1
