Default New owner of a 08 GXP

What's up guys? After selling my SS I went through a 07 Silverado and a 08 Accord, and I just missed having thats V8 power! I got spoiled to the four door space and comfortable ride of a sedan, so the GXP fit the bill perfectly! I found an Ivory white on black 08 GXP with 16k miles for 18.3k! I couldn't let that deal go so I jumped on it after contemplating the trade for about a week. Overall so far I'm happy with the car, it pulls pretty damn hard in 1st and 2nd.
I was also spoiled by the gas mileage in the Accord, I could drive the **** out of that thing and still averaged 24 MPG. I've been driving the GXP with the cruise set at 60 MPH and the instant mpg seems to show a constant high 20s/low 30s so i'll let you guys know what granny driving does MPG wise for this car.

Any other forums specific to these GXP/LS4 vehicles?

Thanks!

Congrats on the purchase. I don't know of any other forums that are specific to the LS4 cars. Few GP sites around. This is the only one I know of though that's geared directly at the LS4 ones though.

Congrats from me too. Hopefully its new car warranty was extended to you. If you bought from a dealer, I'm sure it did, but from a private party, that I'm not sure of. You may want to consider a few "safe" mods, like a drop-in K&N replacement air filter to allow that LS4 to breath better. I've also seen removing the resonator will make it sound cooler, but unfortunately, without any horsepower gains. There are also several videos in this forum that show the exhaust note using different cat-back systems, either with or without the resonator left on.

Thanks guys. Yeah, it's a GM certified vehicle so the warranty is 39k/39 months from new and the 5yr/100k powertrain warranty still applies. I'm not really worried about power gains at the moment but I was considering removing the resonator for a little extra note. I'd rather not get hassled over little mods if I have to go back to the dealer for the ISS clunk, power steering clamp issues, or trans issues (If any of these apply to the 08's anyways).

BTW, when do the fog lights that are in the lower grill come on? I can't figure it out, I've only seen them on when I first take the key out the ignition.

No, I doubt that you can get a G8 GXP for 18k, or for that matter buy a used one with 16k miles considering they're not even out yet. Did you even read through his entire post, or are you just not fimiliar with the Grand Prix GXP?

I don't think the fog lamps come on automatically. you can turn them on from the left hand controls.

He never said Grand Prix so I wasn't sure if he meant G8 or grand prix. He was talkin about a sedan too and they both fit that category. Thanks for clearin it up.

Cruise control is KEY to pulling mileage out of the LS4's... both my uncle and my mom drive LS4's (06 Monte SS, and 06 Impala SS) They both average ~21 overall (85% highway) and my mom drives like granny but w/out cruise control that's all they can get on the highway. Mileage suffers incrementally at anything above 65mph. If you don't use cruise control, it's real touchy and will downshift quickly and go into 8 cyl mode pretty easy. If you have a reasonably level road with no extreme inclines, I've easily gotten ~27mpg out of the Impala (this was on a ~190 mi trip. They are nice cars and pull well in 1st and 2nd. Congrats on the purchase!

GM says 5.3 but thats taking off in D not 1st and from a dead idle. Rev and hold at around 2 grand. And don't push the gas as you let off the brake( you'll get cool tire smoke w/out the TC on but thats it). Do that and you'll get 4.8-5.0 at least that's what I got at the track tonight.

Everything I've read in GM literature says they should do it in at least 5.7 seconds, but that's probably an average time. I believe that time also goes for the Pontiac GP GXP and Buick Lacrosse Super cars, which also have the LS4 engine. However, there are a lot of launch tricks that can improve any vehicle's 0-60 and 1/4 miles times.

Damn only 21 average with 85% highway driving? Are there a lot of hills or something where you live? I average a little more than that (23 or so) and I only drive 50% highway and I don't have DOD, plus I have a heavy foot. Also I almost never use cruise control because my drives aren't usually more than 25 minutes and traffic almost always prevents me from using it.

Well I decided my first tank would be a "fun" tank and I averaged about 19.7 MPG out of it lol. I'll baby the next few tanks and let you guys now. I just had the resonator removed this morning, the difference is barely noticeable which is what I wanted for now. Is there a 4 banger drone for you guys with aftermarket mufflers when in 4 cylinder mode?

4.8 is mighty fast for these cars. So you could really run or out run a G8?

Congrats on the purchase!

The fog light switch is on the left stalk (w/turn signals, etc.). Turn the wheel away from you to turn them on (it will spring back), then turn it away from you again to turn them off.

Thanks! I actually opened the owner's manual for once and checked on this lol.

BTW, I hardly notice a difference now that the resonator is off. It seems the noise level is what it should have been from the factory.
