Default Sanity check before ordering STB

I'm new to this forum and wanted to thank you guys for sharing the info posted here. I've been driving muscle cars since the 60's but the 06 Impala SS is my first front wheel drive car that has any *****. I'm really enjoying it (but still getting used to the torque steer).

I did my research on the STB addition and think I'll just do the rear bar for now. Before I place the order, I would like a sanity check from the experts as some used DonRome brackets and some used ZZP.

For an 06 Impala SS rear STB, do I order the bar from GMPP (p/n 12498648) and the rear brackets from DR Customs?

Yes. And if you choose to get the front bar you will need the front brackets from DR and the modified front bar from DR as well.

Thanks guys. I just ordered the rear bar and brackets. After I get it installed I'll make a decision on the front.

If I do the front, it sounds like I'll have to purchase another bar then send the bar to Flip for the mod. It would be much simpler if I could just order a modified bar from him but I understand.

Thanks again.

I wasn't aware that it wasn't going through Don anymore, it's been a year since I got mine. Does Flip still have bars that he modifies? Or do you have to supply your own now and send it to him? After having the rear in you probably won't notice much more difference with the front. The rear is what makes the big difference in these cars.

Don just recently stopped carrying the front bars through his site. I haven't asked him why. I don't think FLIP has them on hand right now, but will modify the one you actually send.

I'm wondering if anyone can help me with an stb question. That's why im rehasing an old thread and not making a new one.

So i ordered both strut braces from GM parts direct p/n 12498648 and noticed that it didn't come with the brackets. I looked over at one guy's profile and saw that he is using the same strut braces as i am, but just painted. Anyone know where the brackets are from??

Heres the link: ITS the LAST PICTURE

http://www.naioa.com/v2/modules.php?...ehicle&CID=274

If no one knows, can anyone tell me where to get compatible brackets where there is no drilling involved??
Thanks.

You do realize that a regular bar directly from GM will NOT fit the front, right? You need the modified one from the above mentioned website. The standard bar will not clear the alternator on the V8 W-bodies. If you look closely at mine, you can see the notch in the bar where the alternator is. The only way you get the regular bar to fit is if you use ZZP brackets, which are higher, but then you get some hood bulge.

Does the don rome front bar require drilling?

Is the rear bar also the standard gm bar or will it not fit?

Thanks for the info btw.

no drilling required... they just bolt right on...

the rear bar is the GM bar, no modification required for that one, but you still need the brackets Don sells...

Yep, as 06MonteSS mentioned, the standard GM bar is fine for the rear. The brackets both front and rear just bolt in using the existing bolts on the strut tower, and then the bar bolts to your brackets using the included hardware.
