Default New tires

I'm going to be getting new tires for my LTZ before winter and was thinking about getting these because they look real good and my buddy had these on his dumdumdumdum and they handle that power pretty good. The only problem I can't find the exact size of the tires I have on there now. My question is it ok if I go with a little thinner tire and still be fine and still look ok? I was looking at the BFgoodrich G-Force T/A KDW. My stock tires are 225/55/R17. Would it be ok for me to go with lets say 225/45/R17? Or am I just SOL, and should pick a different tire?

All the BFGoodrich tires are good ones, I think these would work well,

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....nSpeedRating=S

Or just try 235/55-17 or 235/50-17 or 245/50-17 from Discount Tire etc.

Just look around, as for the KDW'S they don't make them in the correct size.

The new tire you are asking about is a shorter tire, not a thinner tire. The width will remain the same, it is 225mm. Going from 55 to 45 will reduce the height of the tire, it will also slightly change your speedometer reading. You will be going slower than you speedometer reads. As far as traction goes, since the width will remain the same, there will be very little footprint change, hence the traction will be almost identical. Also you may notice a very slight increase in power due to the gear ratio change you make with the tire.

swap the fronts and rears? lol.

i grabbed some goodyear eagle f1 a/s. didnt really want to do the blizzak's or ice-x's. just puts around on tirerack for all season or winter tires.

18s are way more than the 16-17s thats the only thing that sucks.

I got the Eagle F1 A/S's as well - great tire for dry / wet, bought off last year's recommendations.

LTZ - you can hang out here!

I also have plenty of tread. You guys must be burning rubber at every stop. I have nearly 40k miles and my stock tire depth is still nearly 1/4". I figure I will get 70 or 80k easy and for the cost of new tires I'm a happy camper.

not burning rubber at every stop... haha.. I've got over 59,000 miles on the stock RS-A's.... and if it was the beginning of spring or summer, I could definitely keep driving on 'em for another 8 or 10k miles...

but, they're just about at the wear marks, so I definitely needed to get the new ones now before winter...

you guys with only 27k and 40k miles on your cars, you don't drive 'em enough..

Yep, I show pleny of tread left, maybe double the wear bar mark at 48K. Going to replace them because they grip like my sunny-side up eggs on a teflon skillet.

That's no joke about the rsa's. I'm not impressed and they don't stay balanced very well. I will enjoy my next tires but I am not going to send these to an early grave either. The power my SS produces is just a toy for me, not a serious racer because of the FWD. They grip enough to stop from 80ish well enough for me. I live in a conjested area and get very fast anyway without risking serious injury to me or others. Even the interstate is constantly crowded here, even at night. You guys are safety concious are you not? But please don't let me rain on your parade. (he he)

Ditto, although I think mine were 173 each. . . . .with the $50 rebate.

Only 20K on the OEMs and they are about shot, cupping pretty bad too. . . .although they checked and said my alignment was okay. . .weird.

I've got maybe 13K on the F1 A/S's - can't get over the wet traction! RSA's would slip bad in light rain, so I got rid of mine w/ 50K due to safety. Ike came through here w/ no worries!

Better grip on the ramps, wanted to do poly bushings on the car but haven't felt the need to w/ these tires. Keep the pressure @ 35 hot.

Ride is a little rougher and louder - but thinking some of the noise is from the accident.

Compared to the BFG KDW's, bought the F1's then the BFG's went on sale at Discount Tire. I'd buy whatever is cheaper.

cupping is due to low tire pressure!
