Default MTI Stage 3 LS1 Heads

These are MTI Stage 3 LS1 Heads off of my MTI 422CI Motor that I've replaced with AFRs for my FI project. They've made 11.0 passes on motor in a 3,850lbs car with MTI's baby R1 cam.

The heads are 98's with 2.055 intake and 1.6 exhaust valves. They come with the 98 valve covers which will allow you to bolt the coil packs directly to the covers if you have you're currently on the rails that come with 99+cars.

The heads are in good shape. The original springs were replaced with Comp blue strip 918s when the motor was freshened up for nitrous. The cleaned up setup has about 2,000 miles and less than 10 passes at the track.

Here's the general MTI info and advertised flow graphs:

I'm selling the heads and valve covers for $1,200 shipped. You keep your cores and sell those off for some cash too. These need to be in someone's car instead of sitting in storage.

I plan on building a 402 this winter...would these heads work ok on stock cubes until then?

They should still work OK. They might not achieve their full power potential on stock cubes depending on what the cam is that is being used. It would still be a pickup over stock heads until then they go on the 402 though.

MTI's primary concern in the caution on their site is to make sure people understand that the heads are specifically designed for big cubes and will shine on big cubes.

There has been a lot of interest in the heads which is good. I'll get some pics up this evening for everyone to see.

I apologize for the delay on the pics but my digital cam hasn't found it's way home yet from my friends.

So I'm going to put up a movie instead for now. It's about 38mb. Not exactly low bandwidth friendly but it's got all the angles, shows the 908 casting number, 01/26/98 cast date and the CNC 2148 job number which I believe is MTI's markings before they finish the hand porting on the heads.

Here's the video of the heads and the valve covers that come with them:

The heads have only had a quick wipe down cleaning since they were pulled in May this year. It's kind of tough to get a clear shot of the Intake work without out better lighting. So I'll work on that this evening, but you get a general idea of what they look like.

The heads were shipped with the motor, so I don't have a full flow sheet on them. We did some testing ourselves to get some comparisons across a lot of the heads that we had available in the area. The work was done to get some background info for a number of FI projects in the area. The numbers that stand out for me was the .500 lift number which was 275CFM when we did our own testing. That's pretty close to what MTI advertises them at and certainly within the level of Test Bench differences.
