Default Pretty sure I broke something......

Well, I was just headed out to a job interview earlier today (no it didn't work out, too many hours for being in school right now) and on the way there I decided to have some fun and run my car at an on-ramp. Well I ran it about as hard as I ever have, and about the time I slammed it into 4th my car shook like crazy and I heard a sound that reminded me of a slow machine gun or something. On the way home I put things under pressure a bit a couple times, but not as much as before to see if the car still drove ok normally, then got back on the freeway and romped it again to see if it would do the same thing. It did, but this time going into 3rd. The first things that come to mind for me are a U-joint or damaged gears. Any ideas are appreciated!

It could be this, hard to say though until you check it out.

Check your transmission mount at the crossmember. They've been known to come apart. Also check the rubber bushing for the front of the torque arm...It's located in the same neighborhood.

Time for an update! I just got back in from checking things out. All mounts looked good, the torque arm does not appear to be bent, and my gears look fine. Tomorrow I'm going to try replacing the u-joints and see if that fixes it. I'm about 80% sure its not any kind of mount because the vibration/shaking only happens under the described circumstances. no clunking under acceleration or anything. I am a bit worried about that maybe something in the clutch assembly backed out, but I would think that would cause it to slip. At least I can be reasonably sure that its safe to drive now. Any other ideas?

Maybe your driveshaft is out of balance?

no if your ds is out of balance it could shake at any time! depends on how bad, but i doubt its that....

im thinking its the ujoint...a good way to find out is if when your down there and they are wiggly when you mess with them! are they? if its not that then its something to do with your tranny...maybe the flywheel or clutch...its farfetched but possible

they didn't seem wiggly when i was down there, BUT, the car also only shudders and makes all the noise and **** when its run HARD. at around 3-4k I can speed shift it under heavy throttle and nothing happens. But if I do the same thing at 4500-5500 or so with your foot to the floor, it sounds/feels like the car is falling apart! So I have to wonder if the u-joints could be just beginning to go. They're cheap, so I'm going to see if I can't get a new set in tomorrow if any stores around here have them in stock. If that doesn't fix it....time to look at the clutch and tranny I guess unless anybody has a better idea

that is the best thing right now!! when you put the new ujoints in remember to put the clips on your your caps will fall off and that isnt good on your ds...

doesnt sound like ujoints now but ya never know...sounds like clutch or flywheel to me!

Well we'll see. I'll put the rear end back together (I don't have any fluid at the moment, I just decided to take it apart to check it to be sure), put the u-joints in, then go out and romp it and see if it still does the same thing. If the joints fix it, I'm gonna be a happy camper
