Default headders

is it possible to convert my '97 into a single cat set up and still be emissions legal? my friend had a 95 with the edelbrock mid length headders that i really liked. my goal is to be able to run open headders and be able to put the cat in for testing. or are there any LT set ups that are emmissions legal?

As far as i know theres nobody that makes long tubes that will pass CA emissions. You might be able to go with single cat system using aftermarket cats.

Single cat system were only on the pre 95 years. Ive had few 95 fbody, auto's had dual cat and the 6 speeds had single cat in 95.

Depending on how strict emissions are where you are at, they will know you are supposed to have two cats and you may fail.

Best thing would be to post what state you are in, perhaps then other member can tell you how it went with aftermarket setups?

What i would do is go find an inspection station and ask them what they would pass and what they wont. I would see about doing long tubes with a off road Y pipe then buying two cats and having them weld one cat into each side of the y pipe.

My stock '95 Auto had a Single Cat.. you must have had ones that were made later in that year.

you could aways cut a stock cat in half and tack weld it to the y-pipe to make it look like you have them.

Your right, the later half of 95 is when dual cat was adapted. I guess it depends on the build date.
