Default Bumpin redline.

I just bought a 95 camaro, and the previous owner does not know what has been done to the car prior to them owning it. I know it has a 160 themastat, and flowmasters, but not sure about a tune.

Now to the problem. When you get on it the car pulls good to redline, but then it does not want to shift out after it redlines a little it shifts to 2nd, then the same thing happens for 3rd. What can I do to fix this. It seams to be redlining at 5700 or so. What is it from the factory???? Can a mail order tune correct this?

I believe that is factory shift point, trust me, you dont want it to go anyhigher, the car doesnt really pull good up there in rpm.

my shift point is 6000 from the factory, and you can really feel the car lay over once it gets around 5800+ rpm

i know it seems a little scary but that is where it should be shifting....you can have your pcm tuned for your car to shift earlier than that

5850(+/- 25rpm) is the factory redline I've been seeing. You can bump it to 6200 safely, but you'll need to tweak the transmission as well.

That's just signs that the Transmission is wearing and itsn't as crisp as it was new. You need to get it tuned to adjust the shift MPH a little lower on the 100% WOT Tables.

the trans not shifting is an issue. Don't worry about reving the engine though. My rev limit is set at 6250 on my Accel box and trust me its bounced off that rev limiter more times than I care to remember. It just won't die, 165k on it and it still runs 13 flat. My internally stock LT1 has eaten 2 transmissions and 2 rear ends but still runs like a top.

There is no reason to rev any higher. You're not making any power over 5200 anyway. You will also experience Valve float

Thanks for posting that graph, You know how many times I have told people that there is no more power to be had shifting at 6000+, The stock cam, springs are well petered out before the factory 5750 redline...

That graph, I think, proves more that you SHOULD shift around 6-6.2K! The HP slowly drops off and you're still making nice power. If it just dropped like a rock, then I'd say you're absolutely right. It also looks to not be floating either, so all in all, I say bump up that limiter.

one of the reasons you will keep reving an engine is to get the motor into a better part of the power band AFTER you shift.

^^That can be done with lower Gears.

I like to run mine right to where it starts to drop in HP after where it would level off, and shift it about where the peak Torque would be. For me it would be shifting at 6500 RPM's with 3.89's and the T56.
