Depends On How High You Are At The Time And How Much You'd Like To Push It.
And That Part About You Shifting At 4700rpms Is Just Silly If Your Trying To Race, The Car Makes Power Well Above 5000rpms.

It's funny I asked this a few months back and got almost no reply when trying to tune mine haha . Mines an auto and my 1-2 shift is the highest and it hits about 5825 by my datalog but looks like 6 on the stock tach . Other shift points are around 5700 . So do you guys think I have more left .... ? Car has boltons all stock internals ....

I have heard that these motors don't like to spin high rpms and I was wondering what you guys usually shift at? What do you consider safe? Personally, I shift at 5k on the stock tach., which in reality is like 4700, but I shift there because I don't feel it makes any power after there.

best thing, probably not
I shifted my old 96 Z/28 H/C setup at 6800 as well and seen 7K through the traps.
I've seen no issues with stock or aftermarket short going 7K, but an Opti lasting is another question.
The short that came out of my 97 looked mint besides the lobes on my cam where worn.

Old 396 was shifted at the same
New combo is shifted at 6800 with a 7200 limiter
Not the norm...but I am still on the opti that the car left Canada with

When I put the cam in my 1993 TA it made peak power at 6300 rpm. It was an auto so I had it set to shift at around 6400 rpm at WOT. I ran it like that for over a year without problems.
